from Bruce Egnater - If you can locate the two 1 ohm resistors near the power tubes (R59 & R60), those are the test points for setting the bias. Set the bias to 35mVDC to ground @ TP1/TP2 respectively.
are you using the Syn2 with phantom power to power the channel switcher (7 pin) - it sounds like it is getting bleed thru voltage from ground and confusing the relay - try a different MIDI cable or see if you have things grounded properly. Especially if you are using MIDI cables with metal ends
