Might need to look at the bigger picture (power amp and speakers). Playing a Nitro pre-amp into a tiny power amp isn't going to have lots of tight bass.

Depending on the module, any tube position can have an impact. Fender circuits might have the tone stack right after one gain stage. With Marshall it is toward the back. Try it and see.
