    GUITAR STRAPS

Piling up my posts so I can get on the Classifieds! Gotta go to the store and try (yes take your guitar) My favorite straps were custom made tho. Levy straps are good, but I need a 60" strap, so in the store I think there is one. Advice; avoid the ultra cheapo patent leather ones, they do...

The 1st time I ever heard a Marshall.

I imagine it has a lot to do with the music one listens to most. "Tone" is certainly a headgame in my book, and like your brain, changes frequently. Most of the Marshall lovers were raised on a steady diet of british rock and metal (and there are many photos of Jimmy Page, the world's top gear...

    Pickup suggestions

Hi, I have experimented about as much as anyone who can't do their own soldering on pickups! lol I found PAFs are basically like chocolate ice cream. You got your basic, and then hundreds of tiny variations; finding your fave variant is going to be down to trying them all. Fortunately, they...

    Tubes Tubes Tubes

From what I have read, the nature of the beast. Anything other than a JJ, which I have bought from various sources, I go to a local tube dealer, who has surplus and new tubes, and will test them for me right there. Not having my own tester, I can't vouch for any particular dealer other than my...

    Speaking of other gear...thoughts on...

I rehearsed a few times with one. I didn't get to do much with it, since it belonged to another person in the band I was guesting with. I imagine it takes some tweaking to get likable sounds, but it is certainly a powerful device.

    Mr Scary redux....tonal revelation

Yes, back when I had my highly tweaked MTS setup, Mr Scary was my primary module. The only module I ever came across that sounded great along the entire travel of the gain knob. FTR, I never tried a $300+ module like a Friedman or Salvation.

    Pickups

I keep trying diff. stuff, all of which were good or great, but I keep going back to Gibson 57s for rock/blues/metal The 57s were great into my old MTS rig. Right now loose I have; Lollar Hi Wind bridge black Arcane Brown bridge black Gibson 57 Classic nickel Gibson 57 + in black 3 BC Rich...

Nailing tones in the MTS world

I got the best clone of the tone from Self Titled Rush with a Mr. Scary module. I added some old black plate RCA 12ax7s, and Scumback speakers. My guitar loaded with Gibson 57 pickups helped as well. This combo made all kinds of great Marshall style tones at every gain setting. Should have...

    preamp tubes

I got the best results out of a GE gray plate type in the PI, and used whatever in the loop position. I used a variety of NOS types, black plate RCA types in Marshall style, and GE gray plate types in Fender style. Changes were mostly in "texture" rather than "tone" tho. Biggest differences...
