Hey VBF, I had a Renegade as well that was the same. I think that's just how the design is and the difference between the tubes. I think it's the more scooped American flavor as opposed to the mid Heavy British style not a defect in your amp.

I'm not really a pedal guy either. Just a couple overdrives and a Wampler sovereign. I just got rid of my Slash APIIs I had brand new covered in aluminum dangit. I really only had a couple modules to trade.
