Update 2: I've now spend some time checking the internal layout, and can see no immediate issue, except for a handful of changed parts. Nothing I can do allows the medium/high gain modules to run at full gain without squealing. :( The Deluxe MTS module (low-ish gain, of course) works...

Just updating in the hope that it might be useful to people in the future... I've had a photo suppled via the Facebook group. Not my photo, so I can't post it here. But this is mine as it is now: I will do some 'chopsticking' to see if I can find out which cable(s) are causing the parasitic...

Hi (newbie here). I am clearing out my MTS stuff and the last amp I have left is an RM20 (it was a combo, then it was cut down to head format). The amp has had a few PCB mods and it squeals with some medium-gain modules (Plexi, XTC, etc). Can't be normal, so I'd like to compare its internal...

Update: I've listed the modules separately (see other thread). In doing that I tested each one in this RM20 chassis, and all of the higher-gain modules squealed at higher settings. Odd, and as I hadn't used them much since putting them in storage, it seemed odd. But then I remembered I had used...

Module 5: SL+. This one was bought as a non-working module to modify, but I never had the time. It works in the sense that signal passes, but there's an intermittent fault - at most settings the signal disappears only to sound thin and unusable a little later on the dial. No valves. SOLD...

Module 4: XTC. Some mods here - Sozo caps and (I think) some carbon film caps. Missing the metal valve cover. And it also squeals when the Gain and Level are dimed. It's odd that they all should - perhaps it's an issue with the grounding of the modules in this RM20 amp? Price:v £125 + shipping

Module 3: UltraXL. Huge amounts of gain, so much so that it squeals when dimed. Worse than the Plexi (above). That said, it sounds great with more useable levels of gain. Price: £125 + shipping. SOLD

Module 2: Plexi. When Gain and Level are both dimed, it can squeal. Backing off either = normal operation. Price: £125 + shipping SOLD
