My RM50 combo is on eBay

Just a heads up. It's super clean and the Recto and Blackface modules have been modded to the specs given at this forum - all the details are in the item description. Link to the auction (and photos) ...

I need enough lead/rhythm GAIN but W/ clarity, wHICH mODULE?

Dunno, I sold the only compressor I had before I got it. But I'm getting ready to build myself a nice compressor, so I may have more info on how they pair up in a couple of weeks.

I need enough lead/rhythm GAIN but W/ clarity, wHICH mODULE?

The Germania is a reproduction of a '60s Dallas Rangemaster. You'll hear people call them "treble boosters" but that name is deceiving - it boosts a little treble plus some other things in there that make your tone more musical. There's a sound file at www.homebrewelectronics.com/products.htm...

I need enough lead/rhythm GAIN but W/ clarity, wHICH mODULE?

I like a heavy but articulate gain too and I guess I'm one of the few who actually use a Recto module without griping about its low end. LOL Disclaimer: I did the .0022 cap mod to shave the module's useless low end, and I still run the bass control at somewhere around 1 o'clock. I also have a...

Blown Power tube early in amp ownership!?

The bias on my RM50 was waaay out of whack from the factory also.

    Mod Check

I don't know if there's been any design/construction change, but my Recto module was modded last weekend and my best friend who did the mod pulled the capacitor from the bottom side of the PC board without disassembling the unit at all. He turned it upside down and used a pencil-tipped...

My Recto cap mods and observations

My best friend and I played around with both recommended cap mods on my Recto module this weekend. I use a RM50B combo. As expected, both mods effectively shave the tubby mush low that comes in from overdialing a older stock Recto module, so one or the other cap recommendations is definitely...

    Voltmeter for Biasing Modular Amp

Echoplexing ... I got the $20 one from Radio Shack and it does the job just fine.

    Power Tube Bias Settings

My combo only uses a pair, not a quartet, and I'm running 6L6s. I've only used Boogies and Fenders over the past 10+ years so I'm a 6L6 fan by default. 34s to my ear sound better in a live performance environment playing rock but I don't gig anymore, I just play around the house and studio stuff...

    Power Tube Bias Settings

+100. My RM50B combo's bias was outta whack straight from the factory, I think because it got a pair of crappy power tubes. They were horribly mismatched, I think because one was getting ready to go out - one had a red-colored "Ruby Tubes" logo and the other had a brown-colored logo, I think...

Recto - not what i expected

I was a Boogie junkie for many moons and I've owned and gigged with a Dual Rectifier halfstack, a Tremoverb halfstack and a Rectoverb combo and the Recto module sounds very different than "real" Rectos. The module doesn't sound bad, I love mine (getting ready to do the cap mod to love it more...

    DLX Module

I still have the factory tubes in all my modules. Preamp tubes tend to last much longer than power tubes. I would suspect the high-gain modules would consume tubes quicker than clean modules, but I'd still expect to get at least two years out of really pushed preamp tubes. I was a Boogie user...

    DLX Module

IIRC all blackface-era "Twins" were actually Twin Reverbs. Twins were high-wattage combos (my SF was like 85 watts or something) running off a quad of 6L6s, with a solid-state rectifier. Deluxes were like 18 or 22 watts and ran off a pair of 6V6s. I'm pretty sure they had tube rectifiers. Get...

    DLX Module

Randall's module descriptions say a "Blackface" module is voiced like a Fender Twin, and the DLX voiced like a Deluxe Reverb. I have a Blackface module for my RM50 combo and my main amp before my switch to the MTS series was a '70 SFTR and some stomps. I very familiar with Tremonti's tones...

What kind of guitars do you guys use?

I'm just curious, especially to hear your opinions on which types of pickups (singles, 'buckers, P-90s/soaps, minibuckers) work best with these amps. I only have two guitars, a custom-order '95 Hamer Centaura/Diablo hybrid (a.k.a. the "Centablo") with two direct-mount, reverse-slant humbuckers...

Footswitchable reverb ideas for RM50 combo?

I just unplugged the send/returns on the reverb tank and the amp operated fine. I'm convinced there's gotta be someway either to kill reverb outright via a switch or to roll the level via a treadle pedal.

Footswitchable reverb ideas for RM50 combo?

Any one have any ideas how to make the reverb footswitchable for my RM50 combo? I figure there's probably some kind of switch I could use to break the reverb chain in the parallel loop to kill the reverb but I'm reluctant to go out and buy something unless I know it will work right and not be...

    rm50 settings

    My RM50 combo's density is at 2 o'clock and the presence around 3 o'clock.

Considering an MTS amp, but have questions...

I just pulled the original boxes for my "blackface" and "recto" modules. Both say "electronics assembled in Korea." I was under the impression that all the electronics on the MTS stuff is done overseas and then they are QC'ed and then assembled in the U.S.

    Best module for pedals?

Are the pedals distortion/OD effects or time-based stuff (chorus, delay, phaser/flanger stuff?). If you're using dist/OD, you'd probably want the cleanest platform you could find, like your "blackface." If it's just time-based, I don't suppose it'd really matter. Be ready to experiment with your...
