I have some tung sol 6v6s that I am using- sounds great in the rm50.

People seem to say JJ is the only 6v6 that can handle it, but these tung sols sound good. I don't want to hurt my amp! (tubes I don't care)
Are the tubes the only thing in danger here?

I've been using the JJs in my RM50.
The average Plate voltage in my amp, at idle is 500 Volts.
I think the TungSols are rated for 475.
The potential damage is internal parts of the tube heating, warping and shorting to other parts. The plate resistors generally will blow if the plate shorts. Screen grid resistors can blow. etc.
Basically, keep an eye on them and don't red plate.

I've been using the JJs in my RM50 also. Sounds bloody amazing but I've also been curios to try some other 6v6's as the jj's don't quite sound like the ones I've used previously in other circuits. Are there any n.o.s. 6v6 types that can handle the rm50 plate voltage?

6V6s were never designed for 500 volts on the plate.
From what I've read on the www.newsensor.com site,
the new Tung-sols are supposed to handle the higher plate voltage,
but they're saying 475 plate voltage. They are Svetlana tubes.
That's why I said keep an eye on them.
6V6s were originally designed for mobile use, like in an automobile radio.
They are a beam power pentode. Mullard developed the EL84 as their version because RCA held the patent on the beam plate arrangement.

Ever tried the new tad 6v6? The tube store assures me it will take as much punishment as the JJ but offered no info on the plate voltage it would be able to handle. Just curious as they are said to have more of a traditional 6v6 sound than the JJ.
