I am wondering if the GT8 holds up against the newer or well trusted faves.
I really need something that wont take the punch out of my sound.
have you A/B any of these??

Are you saying the Replifex takes the punch out of your sound? If so, I would try working with it a little more. That's a great processor.

I am not saying that the replifex takes a bite out of your sound. I am asking if anyone has compared these guys, in that respect.
I have an Se-70, which I thought would be great (its small and does many things)...but its "warm" sound is due to a lack of highs....and I would rather not have that going on.
I want a transparent processor. And I want spillover..and so far I keep getting out bid on a replifex, hence I have no personal experience with one.
I do have a TSR24s..which i know you like...
but this whole 100lb rack thing is getting old..thats why I am asking about the GT-8 ,
maybe thats transparent enough and a quick fix.
sooooo...anybody done an A/B?

One reason some have chosen the Replifex is due to the analog front end (in addition to the cool FX, of course). Granted, start using the digital bits, and you would fall into the same pro's and con's as any digital processor (more or less).

I played through a Replifex before, and I would love to have one, plus an Intellifex. The G-Major.. well, I found it to be rather lifeless. Yeah, go ahead and flame, torch, blow me up. Compare to an Eventide for certain FX, or a Lexi. Yes, the price may reflect this.

In general, I have not been a fan of modelling stuff, especially as a front end. For effects post pre or power... cool. GT8 is COSM isn't it?

What is the unit for? A "do it all" type box? Front end? FX loop? Line out feed?

Replifex is cheap very transparent and pretty much amazing.
I have the Multivalve which is the Rep with a tube that adds some warmth to the delays.

there so many cool things in that box .the spillover ,the Eq's, the speaker simulator is even great if you run your preamp through it to the board .the Hush, stereo delays , analog chorus

I could go on ..Rocktron IMO was way ahead of thier time and boxes that used to cost 1500 are now 200.

..I was starting to loose hope that someone would reply who had first hand experience.
Anyway: I need an all-in-one box for EQ, Chorus, reverb, flange and delays. I already many stompboxes and as a multifx I have used a Boss SE-70, SE-50, and Gx-700 over the years. I mainly use the Gx700 now.
About 6 years ago I used the Gx700 for its COSM modeling...and programmed it pretty well. I got alot of compliments. But now I use the RM4 as my preamp essentially and just need an FX box..and a transparent one at that.
And so far I have noticed alot of people praise gear..but many havent owned the "competition"...so its an empty praise. I really need info from people who have A/B'd gear. That when you REALLY notice things. Like what sounds "musical","sterile","transparent", "noisy".
As I get more mature in my tastes I want the fx not to alter the actual guitar sound at all. I just to apply fx to it, thats all..and I want the dynamics preserved.
Any thoughts?
PS: I own some TC electronics stuff and the build quality is pretty low, in addition the units seem to freeze up alot....because I play live and have enough complicated gear issues..I just avoid the TC stuff.

Hmmm...
I would recommend...
Replifex, even better with an Intellifex as well. Each has strong points, but everyone has their own tastes, so who knows what might shine :D

Digitech 2101. Yep, the predecessor to the 2112 and 2120. It was actually a superior unit in many peoples' opinions. I have owned all three, and preferred the 2101. But, I also loved my ART SGX 2000/Express, so my opinion might not be the best ;)

One of the Lexicon units. Maybe an MPX G2? Good stuff.

I prefer units that have a full analog front end. For me, converters (ADC) up front ruin the feel. FOR ME. Psychological or real, makes no difference. I feel it, and that's that. If you are cool with that, then doing a unit that can do the 4-cable method (into unit, out to amp, then FX send to unit and return back to amp) might be best, as it allows you to do both pre- preamp effects, as well as post. Or, pedals up front and the unit in the loop.

Any unit will color, unless it utilizes a true bypass, or you create that. If an effect is always on, then that will not matter. For recording, simply pull the unit for "true bypass" ;) IMO, it is a matter of finding gear that reacts WITH you. Like crayons, chalk, charcoal or a simple pencil, these are tools of art, and WILL alter the sonic landscape.

thanks yeah...its an ART..not a science.
everything matters and makes a difference. And add to that I mainlu use passive pickusp..so I am in the minority here at MTS. I think most everyone plays with EMGs or very gain pickups.
And that starts everything off in the signal chain DIFFERENTLY.

I will ahve to A/B alot of stuff..which is cool cause I am into it..kind of an obsession for many years now.
thanks for something to put on my list of MUST HEAR.

Uh oh! Now there is another passive pickup player! :D
I have a been a DiMarzio girl for... well, since day one of playing I think. Heck, my first mod was my brother's bass; I put a double coil soapbar DiMarzio bass pickup in it! Super Distortion, PAF's, Evolution.. I even had the mis-named "Humbucker From Hell"! Although one of my fav sets is a pair of Gibson original PAF's. :D

I tried some EMG's, ala Zack.. and even tried the pre-wired Gilmour Strat setup.. no go. Then again, the heaviest I have ever gotten is Slayer or Ministry. Usually the heaviest is Maiden (first 4-5 albums) or early Priest. Prog Rock FTW! :D

hey I just wanna congratulate you on good taste. i too, have been thru the EMG Gilmore set...nice but ...no soul....then the EMG85 and SV...nothing to write home about...and eventually wound up back with my favorite passives. I think well-made passive can do a great job..and offer more versatality. I do still own a guitar with EMGs...but its for times when I HAVE to get THAT sound. I strongly favor my passives.
I have used DiMarzios...and they're cool...and there are many diff flavors in the brand. Same with Duncans...but oddly enough I like pickups that are not so tweaked as to be one sound. I like the more versatile ones. i try to let my sound come from my hands, my heart and my soul.

I have a GT-Pro (rack version of GT8) and a G-Major. If you use them them the same way as a loop effect for delays, reverb, etc. they are not much different. If you use them in a serial path the GT has much more flexibility IMHO. The GT can model most of the BOSS pedals and rack effects, which is easy to wrap my brain around. I usually run my RM4 in the loop of the GT instead of the other way around, so I can put some of the GT's effects before and after the preamp.
