i know some of you guys here have had experience running the BBE Sonic Maxmizer to boost the front of your RM100. How does it affect the tone? Suppose to increase the bass, but does it compress the sound?
I was thinking of picking up the Sonic stomp pedal to try it. I remeber Maximus having a lot of success with it.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't advise getting the sonic maximizer. I've had a few of the versions over the years, and in the end I conclude that the perceived improvement is just an illusion- and that it actually clogs up your signal. My bbe is currently in my tv audio system where I kind of like cranking it up for extra bass. I also like it when I use a drum machine for extra impact; maybe I'll give it another shot on kick drum or keys one day.

I listened to your site, cool stuff, I would steer you towards Fulltone products, that'll give you great tone and sustain. I'm also curious about analogman and his work on basic pedals...

I know a lot of people here use the green bbe pedal, but I just don't know if I believe in bbe as a high level tone machine

YMMV

Thanks a lot ,bro. Really appreciate your input. years ago i had a rack mount BBE Maximizer, but never really use it so I ended up selling, don't really remember much about it either, had tons of gear back then  So... I thought maybe I should give it another chance.
The Xotic stuff is actually really close to what Analogman is doing with the mods, have you check out their stuff?
Fulltone is great stuff, but haven't had much luck finding them around here.

I've tried one out for a couples of weeks and at first it was like removing a blanket for my speakers..great!! but it was just coloring my tone so I got rid of it.

with the presence/density on the amp...you don't really need it.

The Sonic Maximizer is NOT designed to accomplish front end boosting: it's designed to "correct" the speaker response before it hits the speaker. In English, the Sonic Maximizer makes the everything sound a bit less processed by giving the sound an "airy," "natural" quality. I only use the sonic maximizer when recording, because it makes my tracks sound like they were recorded with $2,000 mics instead of $200 mics :p . However, for live applications, I don't bother with hooking up yet another piece of gear in my chain.

I think the OP is talking about the green BBe overdrive pedal that many around here use... I may rerack my sonic to see what happens in a recording session

Those two post's are exactly how the Maximizer should be used IMHO

i have the bbe sonic pedal on my rack tray.i run through my rack tuner then into my bbe sonic (stays on all the time)then into my gcx switcher. i play alot of jazz style cords with added 7ths and 9ths,it cleans up the tone, sort of like taking water through a purifier, its cleaner sounding. i have turned it off a few times but dont like the sound and wont play without it.to me it is a pretty important but that is just my opinion.for the cost of a bbe sonic it is well worth more.go to guitar center and mess with one of there demo pedals.
