BRAHMA vs BROWN EYE? Mods for plexi module

If you had a plexi module what mod would you go for and why? I am referring to Dave Friedmans mods. If you say the brahma then is it the same as buying a brahma new?

DF has a special mod for the Plexi/Brahma to make it same as Lynch's...I prefer the Brown Eye mod by a fair way....it's just out and out ballsier!

I am leaning that way. I wonder if it is possible to have the brown eye and hbe done to the same plexi? I also have a sl+ that may be modded. I want to have the hbe mainly but not sure if it is possible to do on the plexi? I am confused as to what to do?

The new Brahmas are the corrected ones. Still Dave says you need to dial them up like a Plexi -- Bass and Mids dimed, Treble at 1:00. Gain to whatever you want, and adjust the level appropriately for your loop if you're using it.

So many of the module soundclips sound the same to me. I've listened through my monitors too. They really sound different when you play them.

A lot is going to depend upon your pickups, speaker cabs, speakers vs what was used on the clips. A mic is going to pick up things differently than your ears.

Is the Brahma just a plexi module modified? What date did they start making the good ones that are updated? On another note, when did the Mr. scary and grail modules start being made to the current versions?

I've yet to hear it from Dave's mouth that the new Randall mods are the right spec...but then I've never asked.

I've owned both DF modded Scary and Brahmas and I've got to say I'll be stunned if Randall are manufacturing those...the mods just don't lend themselves to volume manufacture as far as I can see.

..then again they put that funky 2x2 RC network on the Brahma...which is obviously hand soldered...who knows?

I had one of the "new" Randall Brahma's and while the tone was about the same as your Modded one, the stock one didn't have the overall CLARITY that is in your modded one. It was pretty close though. :wink:

Sounds like a brown eye aor HBE is in order. I like the fullness of the plexi but I also like gain at least equal to the Mr. scary. Is this possible with the plexi module? Can the HBE be done to the plexi or only the SL+ module?

I will answer this with what Dave told me. They are "corrected and very close." I'm thinking there may be one cap value that's slightly different or one of slightly lesser quality than he uses.

I didn't know how to dial it properly so he told me. It gets the job done for now. I can't really buy anything more for a while. I've got my eye on a Yamaha acoustic/electric for my birthday.
