I think its only in black now. Should be able to find a white one around somewhere if you want one. Post a WTB thread and see what happens.

The white ones have the mojo.....

kidding, there were some shipped withthe wrong spec early on so I'd assume that the black ones are correct. I have two white ones, one was correct, the other was ****. I modded the second one into my Mr. Brownstone module and it kills now. It is like a really good scary.

The Brahma is the only sig Lynch I don't have. Think it's worth picking up? I've been thinking about getting one.

IMHO, it's the second best Lynch module to Mr. Scary. I know there's a lot of Judge love, but that one ain't for me. I have a nicely JF modded (more 'tweaked') Brahma that is the shiznit!

My thoughts exactly.. the Brahma is a BETTER Judge. Not sure why they even bothered with the Judge when the Brahma is already it. (all be it with a bit less gain)

There is one going for 135$ on ebay right now. The knobs are ugly but who cares, replace those after! I'd say yes, worth picking up in place of a judge. There have been a lot of Judges on the chopping block lately for a reason. Not as many brahmas

and with that, I think it might be time to list my GTO.

With all due respect to Kap/Drew's opinions-Could not disagree more- The Brahma was terrible and thin compared to the Judge, Scary, Grail and others..I tried getting it modded, still THIN and disappeared in live situations, no matter how I EQ'd it. It is a personal taste kind of thing- Lots of people like that "feel" I prefer THICK sounding modules. But really- since you have all the others- I would just pick it up and complete the collection :D

Again, we need to clarify, is this for use with an RM22 or one of the big boys? I have seen varying reviews across the board but generally speaking, the EL84's lack the girth of the 6L6's and EL34's so they'll sound more defined and thinner. Also, as MikeP has mentioned before, speakers will play a huge part. I have greenbacks and superV's, plenty thick there, maybe all v30 will sound thin as on their own, I find they can sound that way if not in the right cab. So many variables!

Dont know abuot the original poster but I have two RM100's loaded with KT88's and use Mesa Recto cabs...If a module sounds thin with that set up, its not for me... I also have a Creme RM20 which I love but I do not evaluate modules using it...more about how it cuts with the band.

Please don't take what I said as "The Judge module sucks!" It's just not for me. What you found to be "thick," I found to be "muddy" and "muffled." Everyone has their own tastes. If I was the end all be all of tone, there would have never been one sale of a Rectifier in human history. I respect everyone's evaluation of tone. You found the Brahma to be "thin," where I find it "cuts through the mix." I run KT-88s as well, so it seems like we are just hearing things differently. It's totally cool.

On top of all this, I would never take advice on tone from me. I've done it for over 20 years and it hasn't gotten me very far.

EXACTLY. I like cut ..fat to me sounds muffled. Glad I am not the only one who felt the judge was like that. Almost like it needs to be opened up. Still a great module for what it is, just not for me. Oh and while we are at it, they made a huge mistake hardwiring the judge into the newer non modular lynchboxes. Should have been SuperV - Scary - Grail or Brahma - Scary in the 50's.

As for tone, we are all wrong, only George Lynch is right! group order for cut off gloves..

Hey drew, thats why I said "with all due respect" !! I do respect your opinion as well as others ...and its all a matter of taste- no worries man :D

Good info here! Definitely on the lookout for the Brahma now...completely worth a shot...and gotta complete the collection right??? Hey, I can totally see how one person "thick" is another man's "muddy", and one man's "cut" is another one's "thin". Whether you're on the "like" or "dislike" side of that, I'd say it basically gives absolute confirmation to how the two differ from eachother and also really demonstrates the consistency of the characteristics even though the impressions may vary...there is clearly a noticeable difference that makes them both worth checking out. You can't really decide which side of the fence you fall on until you try it for your own ears! I'm actually amazed that for a couple guys on both ends of the spectrum, you're both describing pretty much exactly the same thing! I'm glad they don't all just "taste like chicken". Sweet!

I found my Judge module sounded strangled when I got it, and somehow a bit stifled.
I was very disappointed and wondered how this was supposed to be a good replacement for the Brahma which I rather liked.

However I decided to mod it using some caps I had in my toolbox
So far I have only tackled two capacitors (swapped them with an identical value pair of Orange drops ) and the difference is night and day.
People tell me that different makes of caps make no difference :(
My goodness I beg to differ - the treble has been liberated and the unit sounds a LOT more like a plexi now - whilst before it just sounded like an amp that should be taken back

Care to share which values or caps on the board you modified? I find the same thing... somewhere under there is a good module yet it seems muffled.. C3 I am assuming was one of them?

Also the one thing that sucks about the judge, is the fact that below 1 pm it is brutally thin. (and people complain about the brahma being thin)

So far just the two caps that sit next to each other near the front panel
C16 and C17
I kept the value the same at 0.022uF (223) and 600V rating - the new caps were huge compared to the old ones

Here is a picture I took by putting the module on the scanner

There will be more tweaks to come , although I need to learn a lot so that I actually know what does what on the circuit

This mod seems to have freed up the top end that didn't sound right.
It sounds more like a bright plexi now .
I need to investigate a bit more to add a little more warmth and grainy texture I feel.
It certainly does a close voicing to Tooth and Nail album , although a touch more warmth will help.

I also fitted a pair of Yugoslavian Ei tubes - like Lynch tries out with Dave Friedman - that helped too compared to the Ruby Tubes that it came with.

Mode 2 still seems a bit lame - like the life has been drained from it somehow - or just a more subdued response.
Would be keen to see what we can do to liven that up.

I'm with you all the way.. I am going to try some sozos in that position i think... Judges are going for dirt cheap in classifieds right now and not really moving so i don't think there is much point in moving mine. For more high end, I removed the 500pf cap on the vertical board. Mine cuts more with more definition but sounds like you want more warmth again so not sure what the remedy there is.... i asked someone to post a pic of the 1086 if they could because it seems to use a similar board around the "mode" switch area. That might give some ideas. Perhaps changing out those caps there would make a diff? It has potential but just seems very muddy.

I'm resurrecting an old thread
Sent my Brahma to JF for some upgrades. Base mod, Saturation trim pot, & Caswell #39 mod. Now I just have to wait.
