Looking at getting a high gain module but clips dont do these modules any justice.

Was looking getting an XTC module but I was wondering if it had enough grunt to pull off an Uberschall type of tone. Was also looking at the 1086 as a possible option. Basically im looking for something with plenty gain on tap and tone big enough to rattle the walls. Previously coming from a 6505+ and play alot of drop tunning. Band wise Gojira, Chimaira and Metallica are the ones I usually hit up on the most.

Also it would be going through a el34 tube power section.

Thanks

IMO the XTC module is the worst of the stock modules with the 1086 being just behind it. It gets really muddy really fast and it doesn't have a lot of gain on tap. No stock module can nail the uberschall tone but after some eq the Ultra XL can come close to it and a 6505 as well. It has lots of gain and its great for d standard or drop c.

If you want Gojira, you gotta go for a more recto flavored sound.

I'm getting sick of saying this, but customizing/modding the modules is the way to go. The Ultra xl is one of the few modules that works well stock for high gain IMO. Otherwise I'd check out Pete, Jaded Faith (Rob), or Salvation and see what they can do for yah.

if you re coming from the 6505+ you re gonna be pissed unless you get an ultra xl, and even then anything modded would be better. the randall high gain modules aren't very gainy at all. the amp in general is very powerful but its totally different then the peavey in tone, feel and character

Very much different in character.... but I'm glad I made the move. I like the 5150 II for my high gain stuff but I normally play mostly in the low - medium gain area. But don't go by me. I don't even have my 5150 II gained out, and I actually use the clean channel on it.

What I consider high gain most of you guys consider medium gain.

Pff who needs talent and dynamics when you can have a wall of distortion loser :p

If you are sticking with stock do a Grail or Mr Scary and I hear the Ultra XL is pretty tough. If you'de consider modding a module, pick up a used XTC and a used Recto and send them immediately to Rob aka Jaded Faith.

IMO the 1086 has a bunch of gain but dialing in a cool tone is about impossible.

Thanks for all the help guys.

The main reason behind the XTC choice was to get it modded or mod it myself. I have researched modded modules and who does them for a while now. Its the stockers I cant find good clips on :( Also really like the clips of the Salvation modded XTC but wasnt sure on the chugga aspect and if it had enough to keep up. Also im not to much of a Recto fan. Well atleast playing them anyway, like the tone but its a bit to loose for my blood. Gojira tends to flip back and forth from a 5150 Series and Mesa Roadster so im more of the 5150 side of the fence with there tone. But currently im in the mood for something with the gain of a 5150 but smoother like a Bogner.

And from the the jest of it the Ultra XL is gonna be the way to go for the time being it seems. :D

The JF XTC has all kinds of chugga and he can add more if you want. Eventually I will post some clips for everyone to check out.

JF
Gigmods (Pete)
Salvation

It depends upon where you're located and what type you like. I've been gassing over a Pete XTC but it's going to have to wait a bit.
