Is it true that JJ E34L is actually their attemp to have an EL34 tube with 6L6 characteristics?

I really like the JJ el34L in my RM100, i think it sounds less boomey with the EL34's than it did with the 6l6's. I have always had amps with the 6l6's befere so it was a change but worked out for the good.

My RT2/50 will be here tomorrow and I can check this for you. I have brand new sets of JJ EL34L's, 6L6GC's and KT88's from Eurotubes all ready to try in it. I have been running 6L6GC's with my RM4 for the past 9 months and love them, but sometimes I want something a little different in the mids.

I ran JJ EL34L's in a H&K Puretone 1x12 combo I had about a year ago. That amp was great for hearing differences in tubes. Five knobs: Growl, Bass, Mids, Treble and Volume. Turn up the Growl and it totally cut the EQ knobs out of the circuit. All you would have is your guitar, the tubes pushed hard and the V30 crying for help. The EL34L's had more bottom, but the mids were still very typical EL34. The high end wasn't as pristine as 6L6's. I expect they will be great with my Marshall modules. More pronounced mids and a tighter bottom end is my guess.

I think you're on the money for the description of the E34L, I really like how it has the EL34 mids but with more bottom. I bet that's why Randall went with them, props to the RD at Randall for doing thorough research on the RM100

The E34L has more headroom than a standard EL34. Doesn't break up as fast and when it does, sounds a little tighter. More bottom, same mids and maybe a touch more highs than standard el34. It has been my choice for 2 years now.
