Hurtling through space on a wet rock.
I think I'm finally giving into my old age and going for softer tones... OK, that's not true as I'm as immature as ever but I wanted to give a shoutout to Anthony as I got my Matchvox and C-Watt today and WHOA! Unbelievable quality and tone...And in just 3 days! Two of the best mods I have played to date...

I'd like to hear more about--and, if possible, of--the C-Watt. There isn't much info available on it, aside from the brief description on the Salvo site.

It's the surprise mod of the MTS series thus far for me...I never spent anytime playing a Hi-Watt..Of course I was familiar with the tone from the countless famed records made using them..

Anyway, for the longest time my band has used three heavy guitars live and my bass player always urges me to do single coils and a lighter amp...Well, I can say that my Waterstone Carnaby Hollowbody with Lollar P90s paired with the C-Watt will be my new live tone...I knew from the moment I heard it...

It's really good...

Glad to see you like them, those two are definitely in my radar ahh decisions decisions

Anthony also recommended the C-watt over the H-watt for me. Basically, he said the C-Watt was more versatile and capable of doing what the H-watt could do. But on the other hand the H-watt couldn't do the things the C-watt did.

Wait, didn't you own a Matchvox in the past? It seems like I remember a video of yours where there was a Matchvox involved.

How do you like the Lollar P90's? I have a short neck/bridge combo arriving tomorrow for installation in a new Epi Casino (I'm also installing a Tone Pros tune-a-matic and locking tuners).

In the demo, the pickups sounded a little "sweeter" than the Gibson P90's, which I have in two other instruments, so I hope my instincts are right!

:D

I think the Lollars are as good as anything else I've heard, even better....I think his P90s are his best work....

Awesome! I listened to the sound clips on his site and the P90's sounded very smooth on the top end, which is what I'd prefer for the Casino. The Gibson's have a top end spank that's really cool and useful but I thought it might be a little much in the Casino, at least for how I'm planning to use it.

Thanks for the input! :D

No sweat...You are right on the smooth top end...Sometimes single coils get that harsh spank with a gap underneath in the EQ that makes it awkward...The Lollars have a really nice smooth midrange that works well with cleans or grits...Very full response and my Waterstone Carnaby is similar to your Casino so I imagine it will be a great pairing...

I have yet to hear/install/play a set of Lollar pickups I didn't like

My SG has a pair of Lollar's P90s and my St Blues tele-style has Lollar Tweed strat pickups in the neck and middle and an El Rayo humbucker in the bridge.

My other guitars typically use Fralins, Duncan/Antiquities, or TV Jones.

The Lollar P90 is everything a great P90 is/was. They do cleans amazingly (which is something a lot of humbuckers and certain single coils leave to be desired I just never feel the EQ or the drive/grit of the pickup always jives just right) and for dirt/crunch they are really second to none. They have just the right mojo and output to handle anything from a slightly gritty clean to all out mayhem. Aside from vintage prized P90's I can't really think of many modern P90's that I'd suggest over them. The only two that really come close from my experiences are probably the Fralins and Duncan Antiquities. To me a great P90 is pretty much the perfect pickup a great blend between a lower output single coil (like strat, tele, jaguar types) and a good low-moderate output PAF style humbucker.

A customer of mine has a set of the low wind imperials in a 335 and WOW I seriously almost ordered a set for myself (in fact I'm sure that day will come). **** DID THEY SOUND GOOD!

I've installed several sets of 52 T pickups and they've been everything I desire in a great tele pickup which is one guitar/pickup type that I'm pretty picky about. I have given thought to ditching my Fralin pickups from my nashville tele many times.

Yeah the P90's are probably my favorite of all the Lollars but his other work (strat, tele, jaguar, jazzmaster, and humbuckers) definitely deserve some love and recognition too.

It's a pricey set of pickups but they are made in the USA and they have a great vintagey 3D sound that seems to work very well in a number of different instruments. To put it lightly it's one of the few pickup makers that I actually suggest to customers and have yet to be disappointed by when I get them installed. No I'm not directly affiliated with Lollar just a happy user.

For the extra $$$ I won't be buying anything but Lollar P90s from here on out...Couldn't agree more about them....I will balance this argument and say that I have a high wind Imperial humbucker that is nice but nothing nice like the P90 to my ear...It's still great but I'll stick with Motor City Humbuckers...
