Anyone on here have a Lynchbox head that they switched over to 6l6 tubes? Just wondering how much it changed the amp? And how big of a job is it to go from the EL 34's to the 6l6's? I have personally allways liked 6L6's better.

Five minutes including cool down and warm up time...

The Lynch Box biases like any other MTS series amp..

Preference is personal...I find I'm liking the EL34 more as I get older :D

So i don't have to go get it re-biased? if i decide to switch the tubes out?

Yes, you will have to re-bias. Even if you don't change tubes it's a good idea to check your bias periodically as tubes age. I suggest you watch this:

Hmm I never knew that either... I'm a huge EVH fan and he uses 6L6s.. Thats why I wanna change mine over. I think they sound tighter and bigger as well. But thats just my opinion. I am super new to this Modular amp stuff. But so far am very impressed with it. It hasn't taken off very well in Canada.. We must be retarded.

Hey Tehuk No disrespect to my fellow Canadian.. Man did I just put my foot in my mouth huh? lol

Nah its cool. LA Music has had the same Lynch halfstack on display since December. I think one of the barriers is the price after currency conversion and importing duties. That and every other person either plays marshall or mesa.

Yes same problem here in Calgary everyone plays Line6 or Marshall Or Boogie. The head that I bought sat for easily 2 years before I bought it. I had to wait till they were blowing it out...

Yeah, check out your owner's manual, man. You can save some bucks and bias it yourself, just like with all the MTS amps. The points and pots are right there on the back of the amp in plain view. All you need is a multimeter and a screwdriver :)

I switched to 6L6s out of desperation to have a working amp. Yes, EL34s have great tone, but they're pretty fragile in comparison. There are some 6L6s that are really sweet though.

About 3 months ago I stuck a quad of Groove Tube 6L6GE cleartops in my Lynch Box. I adjusted the bias to about 35 mV. It took them about a month to burn in. They are killer.

But be careful with that screwdriver. Those trim pots are pretty sensitive. A little tiny turn can make a difference. So don't be agressive with the screwdriver.

I had always liked 6L6's...until I bought my RM100....it came with a mix of 2 EL34's and 2 KT77's.....I am seriously digging this combination....it sounds absolutely killer.

I never knew that early EVH biased his tubes cold.

I thought the story was 1st VH album the tubes were so hot, they were changing them out every couple of hours (?)

Well, actually, he used a variac on the AC to bring down...ie/Brown out, the sound some....I think he was running at 100 volts as opposed to 115...this is different than tube biasing.....also, the recording is going to sound different than in real life for many many reasons....tape saturation, mics, EQ's at the board, mastering ect.....
