rectomodule.jpg

Has orange mod, all signal path updated parts, new faceplate, recto style knobs. Weighs about twice as much as it did stock - those knobs are heavy! Three different bass cap selections, grail resistors, orange mod with LED.

$299 shipped USA 48 states.

Someone buy this! I have this exact same module from Pete and it is hands down the best high gain module I have tried....and I hate Rectos! You will not be disappointed.

Killer module- the red is my go to crunch and the orange is so awesome on leads...if I had a lot of gigs, I would buy this again to have 2 of them!

Interestingly enough, I compared it last night with my racktifier. The red was pretty close - stock wasn't bad, but my mods were closer imho. Stock seemed a bit muddy.

Orange channel MTS vs orange channel racktifier - my MTS mod is a lot more drastic than the real deal, but that's a good thing in my opinion - makes the module more versatile.

Overall, I was surprised at how well even the stock held up against a real recto. Again, just the mud and lack of clarity/high end was the real difference. Newer versions of the treadplate (or whatever they call it) have much tighter bass caps, so that helps with the mud. Add clarity/warmth mods and the orange channel and it's pretty useful :)

Played my first show last week with this mod, and I cranked it up- it sounded awesome...I'm amazed at the quality these mods have at a variety of volumes. I used the red most of the night, but the last tune ends with a 5 minute solo, so I flipped the orange on; so inspiring, it plays itself :D

How'd you find it in the RM20? More to the point, how do you run the RM20?

Ever since my first combo, I have a heck of a time balancing out the boost with the regular....can't put much volume on the module Level until it gets deafening then have to basically crank the Master in Boost mode to match the volume levels..plus it thins out, even with no added Gain.

I find myself tweaking it in Boost mode and not using the unboosted mode..behave more like a regular RM series then.

I'll take the Recto mod if I can pay on Friday :D

grr

this is EXACTLY what i want.

This whole getting paid twice a month rather than every two weeks sucks.

Sure, I can hold it until friday no problem. I should have some modules shipping out in the next day or two (and some are shipping today - Ray's and one for Michael Wagener (yeah, the wagener) and a few others. I don't mind shipping it in advance to ya.

I tested the RM50 vs the recto regarding the info above... the RM20 is a little thinner but not bad. I actually modded the RM20 in the pic - put blue LEDs (woowoo) in there, and upgraded the signal path quite a bit. It did two things - it gave it more clarity, and more high end - which I like. The RM series amps have always seemed a little dark to me.

Haven't had any issues with the RM20s - I set the amp up without the boost on, then use the boost to get my lead volume and maybe a little more gain, depends on the module.

Have you tried setting the 'non boost' with a pedal in front? That might work pretty well for you.

Pete

It's not that big a deal..it's just that the RM20 is freaking loud even at low volumes :D

I've almost stopped using pedals...most of the time I'm digging in harder and using my playing a bit more..it's really starting to work so long as I practice more....I'll just kick in a pedal if I can't use any volume later at night.

Did you change any tubes in the chassis?

Cool of you to do that on the Recto...I (hopefully) finally get paid for my JEM on Friday...long and drawn out eBay saga.....but even if that doesn't pan out, I'll have money from work by then....unless you're interested in a trade for a Dave F modded Mr Scary? :D

Stock tubes in the amp, or whatever it came with from the previous owner. Not really lookin' for any trades right now, I have quite the inventory built up. :) I need to send you an email, interesting news on the ol' module front for me. :)

the ractifier has the same mid voicing as the mts? mts sure seems barky to me and not as gainy, do you think the grail mods is enough or will you need to reach deeper into your bag of magic, seems to me like my grail modded recto with the maxon on it is closer than the grail stock with the boost but unboosted the stock grail is closer i wish it had less mids from the get though- i'll be getting one when you feel like you nailed it as i'm sure it'll be soon :)

We can pull mids out no problem and add gain... I think the rackmount rectos are less gain than the later three channel rectos, but they don't sound as buzzy either. My racktifier does king's X 'Dogman' to a T.

What's your bass cap on the grail mod? if it's 500pf, try a .001 there. That really super tight value cuts some of the gain and saturation... I like either .001 or .0022 personally.

Pete

its got the 0.0005 in it, you think the 001 or 22 would be better, should i change the c14 as well?, is this the slight variation in mids i'm hearing between the grail and modded grail. it seems like the mids don't make the module cut any better just makes it bark alot to me so i don't hardly use any on it, i think if i could get more gain and a different mid it would be right there with the boost on it, red channel anyway
