Hey,

Can anybody tell me which module gets a good slash Appetite/ Use your illusions type of tone?

depends on what you want to spend .

and Egnater SL2 single channel has that sound .
Also the Freidman modded Sl+ that Kojdogg is selling in classifieds will do it .

Freidman does a marshall mod called HBE on the sl+ platform that has that mid squawk

I was playing a modded JTM last nite with a Boss SD-1 in front and we were KILLING on some old GNR tunes. Love that JTM! The SL+ to me gets almost to "metal" of a tone.
JTM has that Perfect CRUNCH to it. It is my Flavor of the week by far! :D

Remember: the SL+ modules from '07 on are JCM800 modded stock.

As mentioned, the Friedman SL+ "Hairy Brown Eye" mod should do it as well. See Rig Talk forum, Dave Friedman section; there is a thread (Amp Mods) that has Pete Thorn demo'ing the Brown Eye, Custom 45, and Hairy Brown Eye mods (done to a Marshall). Speaker choice, pickups, front end, etc will be a big part as well.

+++1 on the JTM! I just bought a Pete-modded JTM from Rob (JadedFaith) and can't believe how versatile that module is! The modded Plexi is sweet, but is mainly for mid-to-high gain only. The JTM has that classic "clean gain" (e.g. Angus) with gain and mid around 10:00, but push gain and mid to 3:00+ and it gets close to that Plexi chainsaw roar.

I have a stock JTM which is my "clean". It can go from the chimey Angus Young "Rock 'n Roll Train" sound to 1980 Back in Black and I haven't tried it maxed out. It does have the roar of the JTM, that's for sure. Should be able to get those tones.

Oh Yeah....really diggin the JTM this weekend. KILLER TONES that I never got with the Brahma. Love that "slightly Edgy" gain it has. But when cranked and boosted I can do Hair metal pretty decent(Not as good as the Brahma) but pretty good. Killing on some old Aerosmith and Zepplin songs this weekend!! 8)
Niiiiiiiiice!!!

Hmmm...I guess we sorta digressed from the Slash tone thread into a love fest for the JTM; I think Slash uses a more modern head; sounds like a JCM800 or DSL to me, and although I've never played an SL+, Cranky Ray's suggestion is probably on target.

I was getting me some good "NIGHT TRAIN" out of the JTM boosted!!
And it was HANGING in there with no struggles.
We always throw down with some GNR every jam session!
To me the SL+ is a little to "metal" sounding and not the "Hard rock" that the JTM gets.

Turn the gain and bass down :p

I'm thinking about working on getting some rock tones out of that module with my Kramer later (I finally get my 80's rock machine back from my friend's house and I put it in drop B, and it's about to go down another half-step :p) and let you know how I do :)

Your right! haha
I am SOOOO used to plugging in a module and dialing them all the same and then saying its not cutting it. I should know better after 25+years of playing.
I need to dial with the EARS and not my eyes or the settings.
Anyone else "GUILTY" of this??
