I have the 50 combo.
Don't know if I really like it though with the 75.
It's kind of loose it seems on the bass. Or "spongy".
I tried running my Cameron Marshall through the speaker and the same.
I am running 6L6 tubes though as well. Should I try EL's?

Has anyone tried running one with Greenbacks?

Thanks in advance.

Probably an issue with it being an open back cab... do you have a sealed back cab you can play it through? I have an RM20 combo, and it's a bit mushy/boxy. My RM20 head through a sealed cab is a lot tighter and punchier to my ears, no matter what the speakers are.

I have a Marshall cab with Greenbacks.

I have not read to much feedback on MTS amps with Greenbacks

I use a 212 cab with an Emi Private Jack (similar to Greenback) and a Wizard - great for both clean, crunch and rock tones.

Wound up plugging the RM50 combo into my Marshall 4x12 greenback cab.
WOW.
Night and day.

I think it was like mentioned above it was probably the opened back combo/G1275 combo.

I would like to try it in a g1275 cab or a g12/V30 cab.

Sweet!

I ALWAYS have at least my Trace Elliot 4x12 (75's) running with my M4/2150 setup.

It's tight AND loose. I love it.

The midrange dip is perfect for midrange heavy modules.

awesome.

you might try buying a 2x12 closed back cab for your g75's (or replace with v30's or a 75/30 pair). then load your combo with g12h30's (70th anniversary). you'll have amazing flexibility; running both cabs sounds awesome, or you can run closed back for rock/metal or the open back combo for more vintage sound. the g12h30's are like a brighter greenback.

i went with avatar for the speakers; they don't publish their celestion prices but new v30's and g12h30 are about $85 plus $7/each shipping.

I finally compared my 4 V30 cab vs V30/G12T75 cab.

And wow.

T75s FTW.

Seriously much better with those mixed than just the straight up V30s.

I have some G12t75's in a Marshall 1960. I have some Warehouse Green Beret's on the way that I'm going X-pattern in 2 4x12 cab's.

I like the t75's, they're not the best at any single thing, but they're very good for a lot of things, IMHO.

I have a question for you guys. My bud just got an oversized Avatar 2x12 contemporary cab with two hellatone 60's (Celestion V30's) and, out of curiosity, I plugged it into my RM50. Wow.. it gained some low end punch that really made my amp sound wicked. After fiddling with it for a while, I took it out and played again. It sounded as if somebody put a blanket over my amp and cut my awesome low end thump back. Btw, I have EL34 tubes and Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top. I play mainly hard rock/heavy metal.

Basically, will exchanging my G12T75 with a Warehouse V30 provide a sound closer to the 2x12? I would much rather spend ~$65 to exchange speakers than ~$400 for a cab. Also, buying a 2x12 would make transporting my equipment much harder because I have a truck and my amp barely fits in the cab.

the wgs veteren 30 should sound exactly like the hellatone but the wgs most likely will be a little smoother- the wgs is an improved version of the v30 and a hellatone is a broke in v30. the wgs v30 needs a little time to break in but sounds great right away, i used the g12t100 ( same as 75 but 25 more watts and the veteren 30 was a huge improvement in every way

Is the RM50 open back? I've never played one, but reading higher in this thread I believe it is.

That is part of the difference, open back amp vs. closed back 2 X 12.

When I first bought my RM100 I had a Marshall 1960A with G12Ts and wasn't very impressed with it, so I bought a Randall cab with V-30s and felt the same way about the "blanket" effect.

It was very clear and crisp with more high-end. If you want more thump I really doubt you want to put a V-30 in an open back cab, I would imagine it would actually make the sound thinner. I could be wrong, maybe someone who has one can chime in. If you don't have the room for a 2 X 12 maybe look into a 1 X 12?

For me, the crispness of the V-30s has faded and now they sound like they have too much high-end too me (especially with the Blackface!!!) and that's in a closed back 4 X 12.

I just bought the same cab (Randall RS412XXLT) with G12Ts and it didn't sound as "blanketed" as the Marshall cab did, I'm actually liking the G12Ts in this cab.

But like many in this thread, first chance I get I'm jumping on the X pattern bandwagon, which is the whole reason I bought it with G12Ts in the first place.

Everyone on here seems to really like that combo, and having the same cab with each in I can really see the benefits of having a cab with both...

Yes, it is partially open backed. Does anybody know if it would be worth replacing the speaker in my RM50 combo with a Warehouse V30? I probably wouldn't mind getting a 2x12 or 4x12 if I had the money or an easy way to transport them. (I move my gear around a lot for jamming and practicing)

Any opinions on the question above?

Also, I noticed something today that I would like to get some advice on. I was playing with my unmodded Silverface SL+, tweaking it to try and get the best sound out of it. (I just received my parts to mod it for more tightness and JCM 800, which I will do soon) Basically, the module sounds pretty decent when it's on the floor, but I propped it up to get the speaker to face me.. wow it sounded bad. The tone all of the sudden became extremely buzzy and harsh. That's what my audience would hear, correct? If so, I really need to find a solution to this.. I messed with EQ for a bit and found no real improvement to get rid of the grotesque sound.

Anybody know what I'm talking about or have a possible solution? If it is just because the SL+ has old specs, then it will be gone soon due to modding.

keep it on the floor- it'll be miked for an audience, any cab will sound that way up off the ground especially a 4x12
