I have a handful of mod options for you and have had great reviews on my base mods to a stock Deluxe for several members here. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

+1 on JadedFaith, I have his Tweed mod with a gain boost switch, love it for my overdrive tones. Pearl Jam, Neil Young, SRV, all easily gotten tones with it.

Agree about JF's tweed. The Blackface, even modified to the Super Clean will never get you a nice classic fender overdriven tone. Also, since you have a deluxe, try using a tube screamer in front of it. It makes those tubes warm up nicely!

Blackface can't be made to get anywhere close to an overdriven fender can it? Those dirty Fender rythms with telecasters are awesome.

Also had JF's Tweed and really dug it as well.

I have an old twin with EV SROs from the 50s in it. I could never get it to distort. However with a tube screamer in front of it it sounds incredible. I have a Jaded Faith Super Clean in my rack and it sounds really nice with a tube screamer in front of it also.

Sure it can, my OD Special is built on the same PCB. That's well into overdriven Fender territory and beyond.

Anyway it could be modded to get into dirty fender territory but still retain the pristine clean? I'm just clutching at straws here now i know.
