I currently own a Super V and was wondering if anybody has had the chance to do a side by side with the Egnater VX. I think the Super V sounds great, (albeit can get a bit harsh on some settings), but the clips I've heard of the VX and the posts that I've read on other forums lead me to believe that the VX might sound better - a bit more chimey and round sounding. I'm working on a project right now that calls for a pretty authentic AC30 tone, and wanted to get the most legit sound possible. Any thoughts?

I have both, Super V and single Eggie VX.
SuperV is for sale  That is right answer :) but of course only for me. VX is more pleasent, nicer compresion and not so harsh sometimes for my ear. Really great amp sound. (but difference is only in one(?) part of circuit, ask salvation about it)
But if you searching "pretty authentic AC30 tone" you need Alnico Blue speaker, without it will be still only something similar to AC30.

Is either module dirtier than the other?

hmm, maybe SuperV a bit, but VX can be very flexible what I heard, changing V1 tube has big influence - more clean or more dirty (I don?t need this, so didn?t try)

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess, what you said was pretty much what I expected. I'm making due with the Super V for now - got it sounding pretty good today with a light comp setting from my G-system in front slighty softening it - not quite an AC30, but it should work in the mix.

I concur, the Super V can be harsh. I sent mine to Pete and he fixed that. I need to put up a full review but I have been really busy latly :!:

really digging my super V, I don't find it too harsh really, perhaps with the right gain settings and tubes. It has some chime to it like it should, but not as harsh as some other modules I have owned. I really dig it

the clips I have heard from the egnater vox sounded great, and a tad warmer, but that could all be in the process

The VX is my favorite module and the best sounding of any unmodded I have heard.
I agree with this statement 100% everytime I play the VX,it just does IT!!!!

Actually, I have a Super V that sounds just like my old 67 AC30....that module sounds great...Can get a little harsh sometimes with the gain up, but so did my AC30, unless you really tweaked it
