Tube swapping stories, anyone?

I found some JJ and Mullard preamp tubes lying around and I was thinking of messing around with them in some of my modules. Just wondering what tube swapping stories anyone has to tell. Good and bad experiences are welcome.

My previous post on my experience with JJ's might be useful to you. I haven't tried Mullard. The only other tube I might try is Tung Sol which quite a few people give great feedback on.

If you've got a few tubes to try. Try swapping them in V1 (input tube) in your Head as well. It might have more effect on the overall tone than in a specific module.

The JJs sound much better in the preamp and power amp sections on both my RM100 and RM50.
I put a pair of Tung Sol in my Deluxe mod, made the thing much punchier and has a lot more clarity and definition.
I'm going to experiment with some tubes swapping on my 1086 next, not happy with the stock EH in it now, possibly the tung sol, since i've played the Brahma mod, and they came stock with Tung Sols. The Brahma came the closest to a modded Plexi, real sweet mid range.

I'm all over swapping tubes out and trying to tonally match them to a power or preamp.
I find the JJ preamps do well in the Lynch Box, quiet, not harsh, good clarity and drive. The gain signal sounds right aswell. The Brahma came with Tung Sol ( one of my fav preamp tubes ) and tho I swapped out a few I went back to the stock tubes as they are incredible in that mod... no need to change incredible.
All the rest of the mods have JJ preamp tubes but I'm currently in the process of trying different tubes in the Super V. So far I'm liking Tung Sol and Sylvania best for that mod.

As for power amp tubes I like certain Svetlana, JJ, Sovtek, and some Mullards. There are some really kick ass Sylvania 6l6's but for the most part I find JJ to be my fav current production over say currently produced Svetlana and Mullard.

At this time I'm running a quad set of JJ EL34 in the Lynch Box. I like them more over the EL34L. The reason is that the Brahma is probably my fav mod and the EL34 sound truer to that standard than the EL34L.

The Groove Tube EL34 M and 6L6 CHP ( Blackplate ) are some other excellent current production tubes.
