I was dying for a lead 80 type speaker for a 1x12 and was going back and forth for a while about which to get between the WGS and the Celestion CL80. Heard alot (on forums for what it's worth) about the WGS being EQ'd a bit different and the CL being a bit more well rounded and open sounding...

I was thinking the same thing. From what I remember hearing, the MarkX and MachX are completely different. I can't compare any but the MarkX completely nails the old Metallica and Maiden for me. It's my favorite module. Never tried a MarkUS tho..

Make sure you check the size of the head. Those are 5/16" x 5/16". I bought some stainless ones, looking for the bigger size head, but were the same size as the black ones. EDIT - Just looked back and the ones I got were 1/4" x 1/4" head so those should be right. Carry on.. lol

No idea if it'll work but could be a dirty footswitch jack?? Try cleaning it by spraying some electrical contact cleaner (detoxit, etc..) on a jack and inserting it and removing it over and over. Do it a few times, spray again, repeat, etc.. Then see if either the switch or footswitch are...

Favorite is MarkX. But your description of "high gain, tight, very bass heavy metal" has the Erect written all over it..

shinozoku and plugnplay - You sure the blocks were zinc? I thought all of the MIG OFR's had the chromed (or zinc coated) brass blocks..

You're finding the Custom with an A8 to be relatively low output? I was thinking that the higher output of the A8 could be why mine was squealing so much. Duncan Custom is my favorite pickup, period.. I pretty much figured it didn't sound good in that guitar because I haven't really gotten...

Yeah, it's pretty tight in the cabinet. Lots of very small back and forth movements.

I only really compare it to my other Marshall module, JF 59RR (not platinum or custom). The EQ'ing of them is very similar but may be able to scoop the 59RR mids a hair more. Very similar in the available amount of gain. The XTC is more warm and smooth. 59RR is more raw and biting. I don't...
