which models would suite me best?

OK, I see what you mean. Well, if he's already going for the "Marshall sound," then you might want to go for the "Mesa sound," which would be the treadplate and an Ultra XL for solos. I think you're realizing the important thing here, that the guitar tones need to be "distinctively different."...

which models would suite me best?

I think the module best suited to your style from your list is the Treadplate. For what you're doing you don't want something with tons of gain. Maybe the XTC would be a good solo module. However, I think an SL+ would be better for your high gain sounds, and a Plexi or maybe a Top Boost would...

    Module Changes - Advice

I'd give the treadplate a chance, EvileOL, since that's the Mesa Boogie model; it has a lot of mids and lower mids with a good amount of gain, but probably not as much gain as the ultras.

    Best tones?

Imho, great tone is all in the ear of the beholder. Some people like warm and fat, some people like bright and thin. Some people like a little distortion, some people like gobs of distortion. I think a better idea is focusing on who has original tone rather than who has "good" tone. The fact...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

I agree with you audioholic, that those really high frequencies don't make much of a difference; for guitar, more than 16 KHz is pretty useless, but raising 20+ KHz for vocals can make a world of difference. When it comes to guitar EQ, I'm not even using my 10 band EQ unless I'm recording...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

Where the EQ is placed in the chain is more important than anything. If you place it after your guitar but before the preamp, then you will only be EQing your guitar and not the amp itself. You will really notice the difference placing an EQ post preamp. Idk if a stereo EQ will really be all...

    RT2/50 + Bass guitar

The only issue with plugging a bass into a guitar amp is the fact that guitar amps are specifically designed to work with guitar frequencies, however, if you like it, go for it. Just don't use guitar speakers, as you might blow them if you play slap, and then there's the fact that guitar...

    2 x12 cabinet Egnater Mod 100

Well, I don't own an Egnator, Les Paul Gibson, but since I'm guessing you're using a Les Paul, I'd recommend edgy speakers that will bring out the highs. But this really depends on the tone you're going for. If you want a jazz tone then stick some Celestions in. If you're going for more of a...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

Nope, I do home recording, and Adobe Audition goes to 24.something KHz, and I can hear a very audible difference adjusting that, and I can hear as much of a difference on 16KHz on my MXR 10 band as I can on 1 KHz. But really, it isn't much of a gift, it's a curse, since it makes me hate guitars...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

Some people can hear higher than 20 KHz, although not a lot of people. I'm one of those. My point was that I'm probably a bit more sensitive to really high frequencies. The bottom line is that adjusting the really high frequencies does make a difference, and while it isn't as obvious as, say...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

Adding 16 Khz makes a very audible difference, but I've noticed that a lot of guitarists seem to not notice certain frequencies until they are pointed out. I guarantee that if you recorded your guitar, and then played around with a digital EQ, you would defiitely be able to hear the differences...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

Actually, I find that I like to boost 8-16 KHz: it really gives sparkle and life to my guitar sound, and you can suck out the subs, which is something a boost pedal can't do :P . Actually, I think this pedal got the midrange sliders correct, as guitar midrange isn't really something one...

Quick samples of my new rig

I don't think one needs an overdrive pedal to get lows and subs out of the signal. Granted, I think only one stage of EQ might not be enough, but idk if it matters so much live, but for recording I recommend a multiband EQ rather than an overdrive pedal, plus, a multiband EQ doesn't color the...

    Best boost pedal for RM4

I'd say a multiband EQ is much more useful than a boost pedal in tightening up the sound. The MXR 10 band EQ is footswitchable so it can function as a boost when engaged: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/MXR-M108-Ten-Band-Graphic-EQ?sku=151115

Quick samples of my new rig

I think you did a pretty good job with the tone settings, audioholic. Trying to keep my personal tone preferences out, I'd say the only real critique I have is that I hear a lot of low end on the Clean, and there's a lot of lower mid mud on the KH2 and UltraXL, which sort of "fuzzifies" your...

    Looking to trade my Ultra

Ya know, I'm looking at my Ultra module, and I've got the gain set at about 1/3 of the max... I'd also say it's a bit more, ummmmm, chewy than I care for. Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot, but I'm wondering if maybe a module with a bit less gain is right for me? I'd really like a Top...

    Tubes!!!!

Maybe this link will help you out a bit: http://www.groovetubes.com/tubes_list.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=107 It's difficult to find the tubes that work for you; it's like finding the pickups that are right for you: it takes a while, but you eventually form your preferences.

Can't get my amp to sound good, ready to sell

I think the problem you're having with adjusting your tone is that you're thinking of what sounds good to you. Every good guitarist goes through this. If you'd think in terms of a mix, as in drums, bass, vox, and perhaps another guitar, I think you'd see your tone in a whole new light. Have...

    Tubes!!!!

That depends on what sound you're going for: clean and crisp, fat and round, edgy and raw, spanky and bright? Different tubes accomplish different things... Groove tubes are nice. I hear Electro Harmonix tubes are good too.

    BBE Sonic Maximizer in front?

The Sonic Maximizer is NOT designed to accomplish front end boosting: it's designed to "correct" the speaker response before it hits the speaker. In English, the Sonic Maximizer makes the everything sound a bit less processed by giving the sound an "airy," "natural" quality. I only use the...
