    5881s in the SYN 50/50

Can you run 5881s in the SYN 50/50? I understand it has a fixed bias. If not what is the recommended 6L6 or will any good ones be fine?

    SYN-50 + two SYN-2 together?

Synergy says they have tried chaining 3 SYN2 docks. Units seem to be designed extremely well where patching the right ends and outs suffers no signal degrade or noise issues. At one time I had two SYN1's chained into a SYN2 then I got a second SYN2.

    Best clean/dirty module?

I am getting another Vai module as I miss the clean channel and the gain is rather unique, absolutely killer for leads. Wish I had not sold it off. Other fav is either the BE DLX or the T DLX. I also have the 6550 and a ENGL Powerball for my current 4 module dock rig. That BE DLX on HBE toggle...

If you could have only 2

There is one thing I have noted, your tastes change a lot w this system so don't count on a permanent config. I mean things you can lock in like a fav clean channel but high gain, I find myself changing all the time. Especially if you change out stuff on your board as it changes which modules...

Just ordered a SYN-50. Decisions await.

I have this pet theory in my head that perhaps a larger glass tube like the 6L6/5881 produces more low end and wattage potential (which requires more watts) than the more slender EL34 type, perhaps that is just a quasi perspective but I am thinking wattage potential as well. Larger tubes would...

Just ordered a SYN-50. Decisions await.

How do you not merely attribute that to the preamp design? A power amp amp really only magnifies what it sees. It is entirely possible different power tubes may breakup differently, but so much depends on the design and circuitry of the preamp which is pretty much the core idea of Synergy...

    BEBB vs BE modules

The "Buxom Betty" as Friedman names them is his take on a beefed up twin far as I know. More a clean design than gain. I still like it but due to only 4 at time I am using the T DLX for my cleans very similar to the BB I think. Vai's module has a great clean similar to the BMAN module clean...

Just ordered a SYN-50. Decisions await.

I am not sure there is all that much difference in power tubes apart from their wattage/headroom potential. As far as hearing differences, Maybe some have Vai ears. Speaking of which he has been using Synergy for some time now. Differences come in the preamp design I think not so much the power...

    BEBB vs BE modules

Drastically so, the BB is a very thick and glassy sounding twin thing, BE is more a Marshall mod, it's a very good module. I'd have to say I like the BB clean more than the BE but I also have a BE DLX which has all that and more but not a great clean.

New Question: Are all tubes 12AX7?

Just wondering as tube amps often use a tube for a phase inverter which is not usually a 12AX7. I was wondering if all tubes mostly the mother SNY docs and the SYN50 power amp use 12AX7s (in those two slots along side the 6L6's).

    Synergy mods gain list

BB is cleaner Fenderish twin, might just be slightly cleaner than the TDLX channel 1, more Fendery glass like anyway. (My sense of "clean" is that sort of "glassy" Fender-like tonal quality a Twin has.) OS also has a marvelous sounding versatile clean side. "Cleaner" would have to amount to...

    T/DLX vs BEBB

Through my recent shuffling of active modules and keepers, I have to say the T/DLX remains a top fav, there is just more use for a great clean channel than an overt gain that more or less has a specific voicing. I come and go on high modules probably ear fatique and needing to change the voicing...

    T/DLX vs BEBB

I can't seem to have a fav of one module w a great clean and high gain. I supose the BB/BE is close. The clean is for sure much better than the basic BE on that module. Everything else, killer high gain or killer clean but not really both. Exception might be the Vai signature which has an...

Using Syn1 as a standalone preamp

You can run the tc into the loop jacks of the SYN1 and let the SYN1 do it's job of driving the power amp. Depends also what effects you plan on using. I don't know that tc unit so not sure what you are using it for. Any modulation, delay, or reverb will sound great that way. If any drives or...

    Heat from SYN 2

I have run a tube power amp and two syn2 in rack and the heat is present, the cooling fan runs but other than you feel it and you know it's there it's not enough to be a problem with the unit's being able to tollerate it without issue. You can always one rack space the power amp with a dummy...

    BE Prepared??

Agree with that on the BB/BE it's decent Marshall mod but that module is not as high gain as the BE or the BE/DLX to be sure.

    BE Prepared??

This just might be the best overall module. I don't know about the rest of you users but I really like and use the cleaner channels in the collection as much or more than the uber gains. Friedman has really made me sit up and pay attention w this BE-DLX addition. I think this one with my T-DLX...

    Best clean/dirty module?

Of all the modules I have owned I have to say the T-DLX is the best of the cleans utterly vibrant glass thick Fender to the bone also nice edge of breakup stuff. ENGL or Uberschall for the high gain. I am never satistfied with high gain for long. I do like the switching option choices on the...

    Cathode Select Switch

Something else to keep any eye on is the numerous lvl switches on the back of he unit, very easy to get a line lvl on instead of a instru lvl. I found a couple of mine not right or at least not the best settings. My cat has done that to me a couple times getting behind the rack and stretching...

Mesa mark 1 edge of breakup module ?

Not a lot of gain in the T/DLX but glorious clean channels, you could put a pedal on it. I liked the OS nice module. IICP I found rather difficult to dial in which is a problem I have with all the Fryette modules. But once you get it, man, good tones. Everyone gets the EQ tone stack wrong on the...
