Hi all,

I am really close to dropping the cash on a RM4 or M4 and just want to clarify a couple of things before I make the investment.
When it comes to MIDI switching, how do I set up the switching so it responds to program change numbers and can you store the in/out status of the FX loop as part of the patch.
I generally have a bank of 10 different sounds made up of 4 or 5 preamp settings and various FX combinations that cover all bases with my current ADA MP-1 setup and need to be able to switch sounds as effortlessly as I do with that set up. Am I dreaming in thinking the RM/M 4 can do this?

Cheers

Rick

Okay, I'll give it a shot.

Get your midi pedal to talk to your RM4/M4 (go with the M4 Egnater) by operating them on the same midi channel. Plug another midi cable from the pre-amp to your effects unit. Get it to talk to the other two by getting it on the same midi channel. (usually I just plug them into each other and hope it all works without having to mess with changing midi singnals) After they are communicating, for example, select program #1 on your midi pedal, then go to the pre-amp and select which module you want to use for that sound. Hold the midi channel changing button down on the front of the unit for a few seconds and you are done. Repeat for programs 2 through 10 and you are ready.

That easy eh? Thanks Tommy. How about the fx loops. They are switchable via MIDI as well aren't they? I thought I read somewhere along the line that some of the switching features have been dropped on some of the newer racks. Did I read this wrong? Can the older 4 channel Egnaters be updated to 8 channels?

Ya, I think you misunderstood that part, the effects loops have never been programable. This isn't really a problem though, just program a blank patch on your effects units if you want it gone. I know this doen't really remove it from the signal, but the effects loops are tube buffered so I don't think you will have a problem at all with signal degradation.

No, as far as I know Egnater isn't offering the option to update old M$'s to newer dual module status. But then again I don't ever remeber asking, maybe you should call them. Bruce and Frank are nice guys, just talked to Frank this morning. He is working on my single channel SL and EG3+

Good luck.

you CAN program the FX loop usage with the channels at Randall
but just not at the MTS Series...
it is possible with the XL Series (V2 and T2 heads) though

(this is one point at my wishlist for my perfect MTS series amp)
