I had bought a used modded Blackface - the mods were simply changing the standard caps to Orange drops - from a fellow forum member and to say the least I was completely underwhelmed with it. It was thin and had no bass at all.

I then looked a little further at it and noticed that one of the legs of the Orange Drop directly behind the bass pot was actually touching the pot. I then bent the leg away from it and voila - now I see what the Blackface really sounds like. Wow.

I have been using the Tweed as my clean but a switch may be in order.

I love the Blackface. I personally prefer the Blackface a lot more for clean. For me it just slays the Tweed. (Granted, never been too much into tweed-type tones to begin with.)

Blackface rules for most cleans, add charcter as needed. Fantastic piece in a hard rock band.

The Tweed is a different animal; my GigTweed is sensational with a Strat for a wide range of tones going into Los Lonely land....much blusier and grittier.
