The XTC mod is pretty popular. There's is a stocker and every modder has their take which is awesome. My question is what artists or recordings out there feature the XTC? Ie: Metallica and Chevelle-Mesa Mark; Rhoads and Wylde-Marshall; AC30s and rectos all over the place...
I do know that it's another take on hotrodded Marshall vibe but I'm just curious as to it's universal appeal and would love to check out (or revisit, I'm sure) some recordings that feature it. Thanks for any and all input! Aaaaaaaaaaaand GO!

Steve vai used one for a while can't remember what era exactly but I know it was in his rig for a while. I believe for jerry cantrells second solo record was an ecstasy and Dan donegan from disturbed was mixing it with his Mesa for the second and maybe third disturbed albums. I'm sure there's more out there and I'm sure the other guys will chime right in too

I will chime in with a different direction than the fellas listed so far. the lead player from rascall flatts uses bogner exstacys as well.

Oh, that's pretty cool. He does have a nice, full lead tone. An some really good chops too! Thanks guys. I just wanted some ideas because it doesn't seem like an amp that has a concrete following with certain players like the examples I listed above. I really really liked the stock XTC for lead work. Even stock it sounded great and sat over a mix really smoothly. Can't wait to hear it as a modded version.

Lots of working musicians don't have the bread to blow on a $3k to $4k amp, so they play what's in their price range. They get 'their' sound from the gear they can afford, and they stick with it.

Also, as sad as it is to admit, many touring musicians aren't gear heads. If their stuff works, they often don't mess with it or chase tone.

Schaffer from Iced Earth used them some as well.....Bogner stuff is way overrated and priced to me though..Carvin Legacy sounds similar, but better to me(alot less money too) and the recording Ive heard of the modded XTC modules sound way better than the real amps to me as well.....

Really? I knew he used a Shiva...didn't know about that. Sweet!
He is a major tone junkie! He has used and toured with an Ubershall too!
Usually has a Two-Rock in his setup too. This year alone he has purchased
a Voodoo V-Rock, Rockford, and a Dumble. Think he is looking to get a
Soldano soon too.
Good to see he is still tone searching.

Yep, Tremonti is the exception, and is gear head. He's had Uberschalls and Two Rocks as his main heads both times I've seen him.

I saw that he bought the Voodoo V-Rock while on his last tour. However, I just saw an interview with him where he said he recorded his solo album using Cornford RK100 for rhythm and leads exclusively.

On the first record, he used an Ecstasy and a "First 500" Rectifier simultaneously mic'd up.

I don't know what he used on the subsequent albums but IMO, One Day Remains is their best album and his best tone. Ben's production is just amazing on that record, IMO.

EVH used one of the very first Ecstacy's on the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge record. I can't remember which tracks specifically, because he did use an SLO as well on some tracks. Andy told me about 17 years ago, but I've forgotten.

I'm a huge ABNational and fan of Mark Tremonti, especially his Alter Bridge alter-ego. I mean, what a transformation! And even more his tone. All three albums have been similarly stunning as far as how pure and killer his tone search had turned up. ODR is a great tone, but the best..I think was capitalized on Blackbird. III is something completely different. The depth in the guitar is something I've found to my ear as utopian and unparalleled. I know they ghost tracked all the guitar parts with a quote crappy five string bass. But man...I'm not much (I am a little) of an MTS tone chaser, but if I were ever asked to come up with an idea for the module I wanted most, it would be the Alter Bridge module. With a three-way ODR, BB, and III switch. Rob?!? I'd sell my wife's spleen to Canada for shits an giggles, then fund the R&D on that one...with her consent of course. ;)

It was all about the producer that Creed had chosen, along with budgets that weren't previously available to them. Well, and their singer.

IMO, the drums were more "3D" and dimensional on Blackbird, while the guitars, vocals and bass took a backseat in "space". The vocal sound as amazing on ODR - well, actually everything was amazing on that record but that was Ben.

The entire production of III was rushed and sounds like it. I don't care for anything on that record and IMO, it was a supreme disappointment. The production is weak, the sound thin and the songs purposely "dark", in order to expand their audience.

It didn't work.

What? On which record? I certainly don't hear that, at all. Who told you that?

I'm pretty sure the guitar player from Rascal Flatts uses an XTC for his main overdriven tones.

Walter Becker from Steely Dan has been an XTC User for a number of years now. He gets some great blusey tones from his.

Dude, there are some GREAT tracks on your site! Who's the keyboardist on the Julie Stewart tracks? AWESOME Hammond tones.

:D
