Dual Synergy Preamps and FX

Hi I haven’t found anywhere that this setup is clear. I have two SYN-2 preamps and an engl poweramp. After connecting per manual, the slave SYN2 has lower volume the master. I’ve seen some solve this by using the fx send on slave instead of main out to master. However in this set up how do you add pre/post FX with a modeler or fx board if the slave fx send is taken? Anyone solve the lower volume issue on slave AND incorporate Pre/post effects on all 8 master and slave modules?
