Yeah, Katash. Demand some form of physical therapy. Know how you can usually raise your arm up and it can normally go about 120 degrees from your shoulder? My girlfriend broke her arm when she was young and it took a while to get her to the doctor (plus her dad thought it was a sprain and made her push her bike back to the house). The docs did what they could but didn't put her through physical therapy. She now has a lump of scar tissue in that arm and until a few months ago could raise her arm beyond that 190 degree mark. Luckily, she showed me some of what she learned about physical therapy. Ever heard of unwinding a person? You can unwind your head, each of your limbs, even your whole body. Well, I unwound her very successfully and she got full movement of the arm back. She still has the scar tissue though.

Hope you recover well, Ray! And be sure to use proper cutting technique with your Cutco next time ;)
You said your enemy is the long flat end bread knife... sounds like the salmon knife to me o_O care to post a pic?

^ Giggaddy

and Shin, the bread knife is the longest Double D edge and it has a flat tip. Look in your book at the Ultimate set. it should be in there, if not try the signature set (new $1,500 one)

The one that attacked me looks like this

At least you are not as unlucky as this poor guy!!!
OMG!!!

This is the work of an electric bread knife.
I guess those bluesy bends will have to wait a bit.
Left hand/ring finger...Dude....Gives me the willies....

Goodbye bluesy bends..... hell would I be going crazy if something like that happend...

Thanks for the advice on physical therapy. I asked my doc about a month ago and he told me to wait a few weeks more and then we'll see..... soo I might start in the next days after speaking to him again.

And thank you for sharing your hopes with me :D

Shinozoku you have to tell us more about unwinding
I know something that might be similar (although I cannot do it) but I'm not sure if you mean that....

Oh christ, I'm not opening this topic anymore! :(

Ditto. I was expecting to here an update from Ray, instead I walked into a silent horror flick. That last pic was disturbing.

Looks like a Salmon Knife to me, Steve :p

Ray: at least it wasn't the Double-D blade. Had you been knicked by the Double-D, either you would have had no repercussions at all because of the points, or your finger would look worse off and hurt more xD

Haven't even had breakfast yet! :(
Sorry Mojo... :)
Didn't mean to ruin your appetite.

agreed, lol

Update: stictches out tomorrow, hand specialist Tuesday. I lack the full range of motion, and according to my google research, may have injured the flexor tendon. Right now standard chords are impossible....I may be resigned to drop D style chording for awhile. Time to hang my strap low like the kids

Funny thing, drums and keyboard playing is nearly unaffected. ...but I suck at those things! Hope the tendon heals quickly or it may be surgery, then 2 more months, .....

This is your original thread, Ray. So I apologize for the graphic carnage. If you want me to take that hardcore mutilation pic down, I will.
Consider it a public service message.
Be careful with knives, especially electric ones, or they will straight **** your **** up. No Joke.
But seriously Ray, I sincerely hope that you heal up fast and get back to full mobility and range. I really hope that surgery is not necessary. Your music rocks. Make sure to eat more protein and lots of different sources. The best way to heal is to give your body as many different building blocks as possible to get the job done. Peace.

Ahhh, next page :) I'm good now haha

Don't forget rest ;)
It's highly annoying, but your body will most of the time heal itself fine as long as you give it the chance to.
I bet your doctor told you that but still, no harm in ephasising it!

No need to keep it absolutely still (actually that would to other harm), but resisting the urge to overdo any playing will definitly help your healing.

Well, I'm not eating any time soon. Never know when this thread will get disgusting, and Shinozoku 9 3/4" Slicer "Longest DD Edge in the set" page 7 of your script. It's even in the homemaker set. That is one of the ones my family doesn't have.

An Idea to finish this argument:
Hey Ray, was the edge straight or siraded(can't spell)?

If anyone wants to buy a really sharp knife with custom handle for either cooking or hunting. I make some from custom blanks. I got a friend in Seki City, Japan, the capitol of blade manufacture in Japan and home of the legendary Hattori blade maker, who makes me what I want in carbon steel or Damascus steel with a VG-1 core. Rockwell hardness of 59-62, Super sharp and super high-quality. I have found no better quality in either the US, Germany, Spain or France. It takes a few weeks for my order to get filled, but the quality is better than I could forge myself. One of my santokus would have sailed through that bagel like butter.

My doctor says I'm not ready to be around knives yet...When I get the all-clear, you'll be getting a call from me!

MHatter: it was sarated
Daryl: lol, a Hattori Hazoi knife like in Kill Bill? I wouldn't live another day cooking breakfast with that blade

Stitches out, recovery time may be weeks or months, hard to tell. Right now range of motion is about 50%, so I imagine my other digits will get a good workout in the meantime. I realized today that many of my riffs only require 3 fingers, I just need to get that pinky stronger!

2nd opinion tomorrow, but as of now no need for an mri/surgery. On the bright side I'm well stocked in meds

Actually Ray,
It is Mr. Ichiro Hattori. He is one of the world's foremost knifemakers, period. Here is a quick link to a little of his backstory and some of his beatiful pro-caliber cutlery: http://www.japanesechefsknife.com/HATTORI.html
Scroll down and check out the KD series. That is the top of the line and awesome to look at. If you dig knives. You know my grandfather always told me," You'll cut yourself with a dull knife more than you ever will with a sharp one." and I've found that to be true for the most part. Whenever you have to force a knife to get it to cut, that's when slippage and injury occurs. I got some nice scars to prove it.
Sounds like you are in good spirits. Glad to hear it. :D
Maybe you just got some kick *** meds. Kick down, bro!!!

A bit of breakthrough guitar playing- last night I jammed like crazy on the 3 good fingers allowing the wounded to stay away from the fretboard without any pain. Great practice btw for the other fingers, they've been coasting for too long- I'm looking at you pinky!

Today I was able to play almost all of my metal riffs! Funny thing, the injury really affects non metal riffs- I went to play that mellow tune with jazzy chords and it was painful- that'll teach me, metal from here on out! It's for the best, I wasn't that great at non metal anyway, lol

Tragic Comedy at its finest :!:

Sounds like your sailing down the road to full recovery. Nice...

Epilogue:
Looks like my Metal is back, still limited on the jazzy clean chords like the dreaded A7th chord 7-5-7 fingered 2-1-3...oh well, if that keeps up I may sell off my Yngwie strat and get another SG, lol

apologies to Julia and George, looks like Fate tells me to tune low and drop the low string
