Does anyone use or have an opinion on Gibson 500t bridge pickups? I'm looking for more information because I'm thinking of ditching my EMG's in my Catanese Washburns. Thanks in advance.

fwiw:
EMGs tend to sound a certain way. Its a very specific sound. If you like Nickleback..thats the sound, pretty much. Oh and dont forget to tune down.
But The Gibson are going to be less gain, typically, but more versatile. I have heard them sound great. And dont doubt that they can kick some ***.That PAF type magic has been driving everything from "Blackdog" to "You shook me all night Long" to todays Hits.

Thanks for information. I think I'm going to pick a set up of a 500t and a 496r.

I had that setup in my Les Paul for a while, then swapped them out for a set of WCR Darkbursts. I gave the Gibsons to a buddy who put them in his Gibson Flying V and he's pleased as punch.

Seymour Duncan all the way.

My Soloist has Seymour Duncan JB TB4 bridge and Seymour Duncan ?59 SH1N neck. Perfect with that axe, Ill never change them....ever

Check out MotorCity Pickups for replacements, not to pricey but UNBELIEVABLE Quality and tone.Wade does very nice work.

Didn't like them much at all for my style. I installed WBs and never looked back!

I have both a Gibson Gothic Explorer (500T/496R) and Gothic LP (498T/490R) and have never felt the need to change either....both sound awesome..thick but still articulate....neck is musical sounding for leads in both guitars...wonderful

Stock pickups are like stock drumheads as far as I'm concerned...... But, that's only me. If you really want the best pickups money can buy, get some Ballurios or just have Keith Ballurio build you some custom ones. Oh, but that is pricey, hahahahahahaha :? . I got a custom neodymium P90 built that is quite cutting edge, and it rules, of course, it costs more than most teenager's guitar rigs, but you know.........

Now I?m waiting for the 498T which can save my cruel mahagon beast (but still too dark with SH4 and other picks)

I had a SG Voodoo with a 500T and didn?t like it. My SG Menace with 498T in the bridge sounds much better, has more soul..
But the Duncan Distortion in my Paula sounds great, too.
I used to play EMGs, but doesn?t like the sterile sounding anymore.

The ceramic Gibsons only sound good in certain bodies. They sound killer in deep toned woods like mahagony and korina. They sound like icepicks in alder and maple bodies. They are horrible in strats. I have a black 500T that I bought to put in one of my strats. I put it in, played the guitar for about 5 minutes, and then took it back out. Its like new and for sale if anyone is interested. Also have a 490R - same situation.
