so I just got the ultra module not too long ago its not the distortion Im looking for it sounds like a dirty clean and I was really disappointed by it ,I ordered an XTC module and if thats not going to sound good Im thinking about just selling my randallrm100m becuase the modules just don't sound like what I'm looking for and I feel like I could've bought something better, Im looking for something more of a distortion like arch enemy's ,carcass, what would be a module close to that?, right now Im running a digitech metal master through the head and thats pretty much the distortion sound I'm looking for

For Carcass/AE I would HIGHLY suggest the Ultra XL. The XTC is probably going to be too thick for what you want and won't have enough gain or high end (UXL should cover all of this). The XTC should be really great for solos though. The KH3 would also get you into the territory you are looking for. I would say it's very close to Rise of the Tyrants type tone.

If I have a chance I'll take a look on Monday and see what modules Mike and Christopher have and let you know. I'm pretty sure the have RM100's w/ a Blackface for clean and 2 UXL's, one for OD and one for lead.

so,your ULTRA sounds like "a dirty clean"? that's doesnt sound right,at all, man! there must be a problem with your module.i have an ULTRA and i play stuff like Bolt Thrower,Exodus,Morbid Angel,etc...this module, imo,is perfect for Thrash & Death/Doom metal...i'll tell ya right now that the XTC is the WRONG module for stuff like CARCASS.the ULTRA XL,is basically a slighter smoother ULTRA module, with more of a upper-mids shift to it,giving it a brighter,fuller-mids tone...the KH3 is in the same super high-gain ball-park as the ULTRA series, but has that dry VHT amp tone to it...maybe try a fresh set of preamp tubes in your ULTRA module, first??? good luck!!!

well, it sucks because I bought it at musiciansfriends and I dont know whats wrong with it and I wont be able to know but that sucks that I didnt ask sooner before I bought the XTC module now its like **** it , well Im just going to get an ultraXL then , is it possible that it can just be my RM100?

Actually, I don't think it's the rm100 because the tubes light up and I also plug in my metal master and it comes out good unless its some hidden damage , man I have the worst luck

well, for starters,i'd try not to get too upset about it,for now.as far as Musicians Friend,if you purchased the ULTRA module, within the last 30 days, you can send it back in for a "defective" exchange,i'd imagine(if it's really a bad module).same goes for the XTC module.if it's coming from Musicians Friend, also, just return it for an exchange or full refund.no big deal...if you can find a local MTS dealer,in your area(maybe RD/RICH can help out here),then bring your ULTRA module down there and try it out in another "known-good" MTS amp head or combo.at least, you could isolate the problem to the module, itself,or your amp head...

You know I don't want to sound all preachy here but your questions have been kind of all over the place and this is your first tube amp (I think you said)..someone else needs to hear and take a look at your amp I think.

You never responded to half of what I said the first time you posted issues.

You should PM RD/RICH..ask if there's a bay area Randall dealer and get your amp looked at...especially if your amp or modules is/are new (don't think you answered).

Trying to help..Steve

For what you are looking for I might even suggest the T2 ,V2 or the ninja or Archetype ,those have the tube preamp and a tighter ,more percussive power amp with loads of headroom

yeah I post alot but heres the thing there are no randall dealers around here so I cant visit one the nearest one is like uh 80 or 100 miles

**** that sucks...unfortunately I'm about the same distance away too (live the other side of Sacramento)

Do you have a digital camera..could you record a few chords and lines on video on it, give people a better shot at trouble shooting maybe...?

if your looking for a pedal sound you should get a ss amp or another pedal

solid state doi!, yeah but I don't want a solid state amp I'm just looking for a really deep, crunchy distortion but you know if it really calls for it I will get one , but the thing was I was going to get a triple rectifier but I got this randall instead Im experimenting with different amps. I know that randall haves some good modules and it's a unique amp I didn't want to follow the mesa trend .Although Mesa does have good amps but I really think they just have a "brand name" and alot of people make it seem like the ultimate amp, I tried it out and it didn't impress me at all it made me change my mind about getting it, but I need to just find the right sounds and modules even though I might get the wrong ones there would be a use to it in the future at one point.

Telling you Bro.....try the 1086 module and change your tubes to the KT88's. It will blow you away..........no pedals needed......SUPER HEAVY!!!

Man.......it was the 1086 that first sold me on the Lynch box amp. Super heavy stuff bro! When you take out the mids and play the opening riff to HOLY WARS(MEGADETH) it is DEAD ON!! Love it!!! Love it!! 8)
