JJ6l6 // JJEL34's // Tungsol 5881 Opinions

I just purchased an Rm-50, and have heard various ideas about which tubes sound best.

Rather than diving into the 6l6 vs el34's.....i wanted to gather some opinions on what the best brand/quality is for each of them respectively.

So far i gather JJ's make the best.

What do you think?

i'd say so. get a pair of each. but i'd kt-88's as well

How about the 5881 by TungSol? I've heard from these amps they are outstanding, as they sound great distorted and clean w/ various modules. I haven't tried them myself, can anyone vouge?

Ive been swapping out tubes for 2 days now and this is how it was set up and how it is now:

Before:
Chassis preamp - JJECC83-S
Power Amp - JJKT-88's outside & JJE34L's on the inside
Modded SL+ - Sovtek 12AX7LPS V1&2 Horrible tone
Egnat. Erect - Tung-Sol 12AX7 V1&2 Sharp and brittle sounding

Now:
Chassis preamp - Tung-Sol 12AX7 - Awesome clarity! It was such a night and day difference when I swapped out the JJ's
Power Amp - JJKT-88's outside & JJ6L6GC inside. Bias is 50 for the KT's and 35 for the 6L6's....SWEET BABY JESUS does this sound nice. Really punchy and alot less "flubby" on the bottom end. I also have it set up @ 4ohms which with my R212cx extends the bottom to get rid of the flubbyness as well
Modded SL+ - JJECC83-S - Im in marshall heaven. I can finally nail Rage and Tool with this module
Erect - V1 JJECC83-s V2 Tung Sol 12ax7 - Still dialing this one in but its alot fatter and warmer than it was. With just the Tung Sol's it was really crisp and sort of electric sounding.

I still have a set of Tung Sol's 5881's to try out but without a doubt the KT88' and TungSol's 12AX7's will be my setup for a long time. I just cant see it getting any better than this configuration.

Edit: Found an extra JJECC83-S and changed out the Tung-Sol in the Erect and I like this much better. Now my BlackFace has 2 tungsol's and it loves em.

I'd also like to hear about those small bottle 5881's Apparently they're used in the ENGL 840/50 power amp, which was featured on one of my favorite CoB albums and I wanna try and grasp part of that sound
