I'm looking to buy a mod50 but was wondering how much difference is there in tone and feel to the RM50?

Is the tone difference as dramatic as the price difference?

Thanks!

It's been a long time since I played an RM50, but the price difference comes from the following: Hand made in USA over mass produced import, Dual channel module capability and higher quality parts throughout. Tone is all in the ears of the beholder, but you certainly get what you pay for here.

I've been doing some more reading on these, and one feature I do like on the mod50 is the half power switch, which comes in handy for playing at home or doing small gigs.

I also found some other topics on this and Rob from Jaded Faith said there really isn't much difference in tone and feel between these two chassis which answers my question. So having that 1/2 power switch and being able use the 2 channel modules including those new Synergy modules coming out, I think I know where I'm stearing towards.

The only real difference in the quality of parts is that most MOD50's had Heyboer iron. That said, I have also seen a few with the exact same transformers that Randall used. Being small batch, hand-made it depended in what was around.

The dual module capability and MIDI are the main difference.

Do note: the half power switches used in a lot of these have been problematic and fail. I have overspec replacements if you should need them.

If you can find one get a Mod50 - I've got the last one made, got it straight from Bruce and love it! It's been my main practice / gig amp for couple of years and I've never had any issues, just a great sounding amp!

Mine came with Mercury Magnetic transformers so it's a little different to the standard, has just a bit more thump and a little brighter to my ears. Only other 50 watt amp that can touch it is my Diezel Einstien it really is that good, now if only my playing was :)

Get a Mod50 you will love it!

Thanks for confirming this Rob, good to know about the half power switch. If I end up having problems with it, I know who to call.

If a rm50 pops up for a great price before I find a mod50, I might just jump on it.
