Module level problem

Hey, I have a XTC with a level problem. The volume stays extremely low, increasing only a little as you turn the level knob up. Almost at the end of the spin, all of the sudden there is a massive level increase. Any ideas on where the failure could be? No other manipulation of knobs or switches seems to affect it in any way. It still acts the same. I'm wondering if it is just a pot or something different. Thanks, in advance for any help.

Wanted to add this is an RM20. Also, I can run my Plexi with no issues in the amp. This is a used XTC and it has been this way since the first time I installed it.

I'd say a bad or dirty potentiometer. Try this... with the module out of the amp, try moving the level control from full up to full down back and forth quickly several times. This MIGHT clean the pot. If that doesn't work, next step would be to get some tv tuner cleaner or equivalent from Radio shack (DeOxit is good but expensive) and spray it inside the pot - you'll have to turn the module upside down and inside. then work the knob as above.

If THAT doesn't work, then you'll need to have the pot replaced.

If you're not able to do it or just don't want to mess with it, I and probably anyone else who mods could repair that while we do other mods to your module - if I did it, you wouldn't have to pay anything extra to have it fixed, just the regular mod price - as I'd have your module apart anyways and a replacement pot isn't that much. I've done it for people before and I'll do it again

Ok, I have some DeOxit. I'll give that a shot. Maybe I'll get lucky. I'm not sure if I want to mod it, 'cause I can't really tell what it sounds like stock yet. I appreciate your answer, thanks. Anything special I need to know about these pots, in case I need to replace it, like values or that I can only get them from a little dude in a hut in some little town in Oklahoma or something? Thanks, again.

Hey now, I have a nicer place than a hut, it's more like a shack...

Anyways, replacement is a 500k 16mm PC mount alpha pot. Try cleaning it with the DeOxit first though.

I'm sure you're place is nice. Well, I'm a comp tech, so I know what kind of workshops we grow with various assorted gizmos and graveyards. That's expected for someone that knows what they're doing. I was just hoping that I didn't have to go to some DIO type fellow in an earthen, hobbitish dwelling reminiscent of one of the LOTR movies, secret knock while he goes on about his precious. Ok, back to reality. I'm gonna fold this laundry, then dig out the Deoxit. Thanks.
