I know this has been addressed here and there, but a spark of curiousity is driving me crazy.

So I'm looking at the PDF files of all the module layouts, and cant help but notice how almost IDENTICAL most of the modules are, with the exception of components/values.

If so, what about converting modules? (not just modding, but something extreme like taking a clean and turning it into a brown) Providing that you have the experience and knowledge to do so.

I'm still learning quite a bit about the whole MTS series and know there are lots of guys on here that can chime in on why you can/can't. I'd love to hear some opinions! :D

I just got through modding my Tweed back to Tweed from a Plexi. I loved the Tweed tone but I rembered falling in love with the mts over the Plexi module to begin with. I have a 1086 but I had to see if changing the resistor and capacitor values would give me the Plexi sound. I played it till I got my stock pre-striped Plexi and tried them side by side. It is amazing how a few changes will alter the overall tone and response of the modules! I have converted my Tweed back and all is well. One thing to note though. I am sure it is not good to do the amount of soldering that I have done back and forth on the Tweed. It hasn't acted funny or anything like that. I just don't think I will be pushing my luck on modding it anymore. I did keep the heat down and consider myself a semi pro on a soldering station. Just food for though. I have a small pcb loaded with every significant resistor and capacitor plus two 4 pole 2 throw switches to switch between Tweed and Plexi tones in the same module but I don't know for sure the direction of the signal flow on the module pcb. If I had that I could come up from the board to the switch and then back from the smaller board returning the switched signal back to the main board. It would be like have a dual channel in on slot. It worked really good for the Tweed to JTM cause it only needed three components set up on one 3 pole dual throw switch. After the Plexi in the RM-50 that was redundant to me so I put the Tweed back stock. The main things are trying to stay within the variable pot ranges. That would be hard to get around. Switching from one tone or volume pot to another.

Those layouts are made to look identical for ease of reference. The modules themselves are frequently much different, though, especially the Ultra Lead and XTC.

That's what I was kinda thinking.

Thanks for the input guys! :D I'm looking forward to doin' some mods

can you get me a link to these pdf's

i would like to see em too

thanks!

They're in the Documented Modifications sticky, in the first link there :p But they're PCB Layouts, and are in some cases inaccurate with a few values (due to changes made over time), but like I said, yo won't get a good idea of how everything flows unless you know a lil something about Tone Stack.
