I have been reading this forum for quite some time and just joined. I have 2 questions...
1) I have an option of buying a rm1250 with 2 modules for $699 or a unloaded lynch box(3 channel,100 watt) for $599. Opinions on which one would be better?... Do I need 12 channels? No, but it would be fun.... Differences on power amp except for wattage?
2) since it is now obvious that Randall is getting out of the module amp business, with lynches new amp, fortin designing Hammet's new amp, and I have a feeling that Scott Ian will be screwed once again by US music Corp, will all of you stay with the mts line? Or are some gonna jump ship?....like to hear from you all before I buy one of these amps. Thanks for any input.

I am suspect of anyone asking these questions.
..only one post...
trolling?
I dunno. We had someone else come by here recently and kick up all kinds of heat...and we are usually VERY civil.
Just saying.

ehh, I'll bite..

1. Get the rm1250 cuz if you get into it you'll get into it.

2. If Egnater gets back into it I don't care if Randall gets out of it.

1250 for me, but I am a big fan of 50 watt power sections over 100 watt. Less weight, cheaper to re-tube, more than loud enough for everything that I have ever done.

Also you will never be limited in the channels you want. For me that won't make a difference since I don't play out, but if you do I can see the desire to have four channels. I used to use a digial setup with a bank of 2-4 sounds tweaked for each song. It was total overkill, but I got a lot of compliments on my tone.

So basically it comes down to what your preference is. Also look at re-sale incase you don't get inspired by the MTS amps. It would not be great to have an amp that is really hard to re-sell.

Also don't make the mistake that I did the first time around, and decide MTS isn't for me before trying some modified modules. I am trying only modified modules this time around

Gtrgeorge, not trying to kick any dirt or "start anything",,,,I don't even know what "trolling" is....
Thanks for the input so far, I agree that 50 tube watts is plenty,,,,any 100 watt tube amp I've had in the past I have always ran at half power anyway....The resale thing I always try to think about, but it's horrible resale value is what is leaning me towards getting a rm1250 in the first place, I will have to invest in a handful of modules but that is ok. Will mostly be looking at the modded ones, either newly modded or used from here or picking up cheap ones on eBay and sending them to Jaded Faith. That's also why I am now getting on this board to let myself be known so when a modded module comes up I can have a shot at purchasing it. Thanks for the input, I'd like to hear more. I won't put down the amps that I am comparing the mts line too unless asked because I don't want to start anything.....

And only a rumor but I have read that Egnater will be introducing a new line and/or upadated line of modules and module amps at namm.

Welcome!

I, the idiot with 19 active modules, say the Lynch Box...If you are careful about your selections, you can cover all basics and then some...Fender, Marshall, Mesa ... Vox, Orange, Framus ...It goes on and on...Three great modules should be enough for anyone....And I like the ability to mix power tubes with that head...The blend is always cool...

Unless you record a lot or operate a studio...Then it should be the 1250 but know your initial savings on the 1250 will be met with another many $$$ even for stock modules let alone great modded ones...

Good luck!

My vote would be the head. Yes twelve slots seem very desirable but channel switching on those amps are kinda weird. True 50 watts are plenty and replacing 2 power tubes is much cheaper then 4 but with the 100 watter you can match the tubes yourself. Meaning you can just replace one tube when in a pinch. Those are great prices on either though.
Oh I wont be going anywhere. I love this line and there are plenty of stock out there to keep me happy and like you mentioned there are modders to get you the tones you need. That may be the biggest reason Randall isnt pushing the line too hard. I am glad Randall picks up players like Ian, Hammet and Lynch but I like what I have because of function so I dont care if they put their names on other amps too.

HAHAHA!!! Those rumors have been running around for years now. Literally. I'll believe it when I see it.
As far as the 1250 vs. Lynch Box. Easy...Lynch Box. It is pretty much the same as the RM100 and that is a really good sounding power section. It's also lighter weight compared to a fully loaded 1250. It looks better on stage. It can be cut down to 50 watts by pulling the 2 inside/outside power tubes. And on top of all that, there have been several posts with people having a variety of annoying issues with the 1250. Besides if you absolutely need more than 3 channels for a live show, then get an RM4 and make it a cool 7.

I also don't understand the concept of the RM1250
How can something be "Modular" when you never need to switch those modules

Well I am going to say I had someone recently tell me they bought a new RM1250 fully populated for $1200 I didn't even bother to ask for a receipt before I called bullshit because the modules alone new are $199??? So anyway on to your question. The 1250 is possibly the way to go. It seems the least amount of issues here are had by the RM4 users. Maybe it's all power section based on the RM100 series. I am a head (he said head) kinda guy and reliability at least for me is in question. However I do believe the Amp and power section when designed were made to work with the modules. Even the use of 6L6 tubes. Maybe I'm out in left field but it's what I see.

My vote is for the RM1250 - at that price with two modules is the better deal in my opinion. It's similar to a deal I got a few months ago. My only issues with the RM1250 is 1) it should have a Parallel loop and 2) tubes should have individual bias. Other than those two issues I dig my RM1250 and the 50 watts is more than enough - gets louder than I ever set my previous amps when I used to play out.

And to set the record straight a fully loaded RM1250 is lighter than a loaded RM100 - compared with my buddies RM100 a few months ago :)

Trolling is just people who lurk at a site..sometimes they stir up trouble..
Sorry to be defensive..this place has been so cool for so long but recently there was some heat.

I won't bail on mts. My 2 Rm50s with all my modded modules are an amazing group of tones. Its really not replaceable. Time to get a few more modules for modding. And Id get the 1250 for studio, rm100 for live

I'm noticing your sig, Downrightproductions, which leads me to believe you are considering your purchase for studio use. If so then RM1250 hands down I would say. And as stated earlier it is the better deal.

Although if you plan on gigging then go the RM100 route.

JF will hook you up with some stellar tone for sure.

I'm staying in it. It just seems like too good of an idea to just die. Plus it sounds like Bruce is going to keep it alive. Now if we can see the E2 & that 30/30 1 rack space 6L6/EL34 tube power amp that was rumored as well.

Thank you for everyones input! As the deal on the rm1250 passed, i finally made a decison on wednesday and ordered the loaded RM100SI Scott Ian head from funky munky! I am very excited!

I have been in the mts line for at least 5 yrs, maybe 6. And I have no intention of getting out. I really hope Bruce extends the line but even he he doesn't, I won't get out. Why, becouse I love the tone and versatility of the rm50. I own. And I only have 5 modules. 2 that are modded. I use a great pedalboard with the blackface and get my Marshall, vox, and modern tones from modules. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Untrue!! A damned of a lie!!

(@ whoever gets the reference: nice!)

I can't live without the fourth. But then that's pretty personal. you can't really make the assumption that what works for you will work for everybody. ;)

For studio use I'd consider 3 mods enough, you can switch mods pretty fast whenever you need to. 3 mods is probably enough anyways for almost all projects.

Excellent choice! I just noticed this thread- I would have said pretty much what Matt said- 100 watter just sounds that much better but I could see where the 1250 would great for a studio- (That Ian head is cool looking too) and after buying/selling a ton of modules, Ive now figured out that its better to have 3-5 GREAT modules vs 15-20 average ones or you'll have a lot of them collecting dust.,,,

Welcome aboard!
