Noise gate in loop of RM4 or in front?

I have a Decimator that I was using in front and it was pretty effective. I tried it in the loop today and although I got more noise, I liked the tone I was getting better. Could not get a happy medium with noise to tone though. Anyone care to comment on how they run their noise reduction?

upfront set at 10 o'clock, bypass looper to take it out of my signal chain..turn on only when needed

as needed is the key...ex. Symphony of Destruction- lots of silence between crunch, so it is needed...other tunes, not at all

in front, I'll start the dial counterclockwise and bring it up until the noise goes away- it's different in every environment and sound level

I gate the front and loop of all my amps......dead silence on stops......it's how I roll... :shock: :lol:
