Hey guys, Yes I was the lucky S.O.B to snag that bad boy and here is my review on it. First thing was I was impressed at how heavy the thing sounded. VERY HEAVY distortion. I never played a Bogner so I dont know how to compare it but it had its own sound unlike any other module I have owned or played and I have had just about all of them, including Egnaters. This module is like 3 in one, with the Gain cut, gets a great plexi type tone. Then the mid switch really changes the tone. So you have 3 really different tones in ONE module. Very cool. I played this one and dialed it and cranked it up, ran it up and down the flag pole. As most of you guys know I am a HUGE GEAR HOUND(I invented G.A.S I think! haha) and big into the Heavy tones and when something comes along I have to have it!! So I got this module to see if it would be my new "Metal" module but when I kept A/B this to my PETE MODDED 1086 module, I think I preffer the 1086 for my Heavy tone. Dont get me wrong....this is ONE SMOKING MODULE by FAR!! One of the best I have played and has incredible tone but I really cant afford 2 heavy modules and really want to streamline my gear so I am going to be putting this one on the Classifieds. Whoever gets it will be pretty lucky I will tell you that. Pete.....once again my Hats off to ya! Helluva module and I cant find any complaints about it at all. I guess my ears just like the 1086 more. While like you mentioned....some hate that tone while some love it. :? If anyone is looking for a kick ass module....snag this HEAVILY MODDED XTC. You wont be sorry. 8)

It's certainly the one I'm most interested in trying next..but I think mine will have a few custom tweaks, since I don't need the Plexi style gain

what does it have on a stock 1086, being that yours is modded now, and where would you say the voicing is

Well it sounds like a stock one....but BEEFED UP! Much clearer distortion and he added a little more gain. The Distortion is SUPER CRUNCHY. REALLY REALLY love it and so does my band mates. It cuts thru ANYTHING we play with ease........ 8)

Well they both have a different sound where the XTC is BEEFY sounding Heavy where to me the 1086 is REALLY EDGY CRISP sounding metal. Sorry for my description but I always liked that 1086 tone. The XTC is like a Punch in the Chest heavy tone. Lower end?? I am not sure. Both sound killer but for the style I play the 1086 suits it a little more. But the XTC can do WAYYYYY more then the 1086 can ever think of. Pete HOOKED IT UP! :shock:

Are you getting rid of it???? I am looking to part with my Egnater EG5 so I need another high gain module for rhythm and lead. Have youi played the Egnater EG5? I am woindering if the gain on his new XTC is as much as the Eg5. Is the newer mod tighter than his last? I was going to order a new XTC with the gain cut and rather than a mid pull, I wanted a tight pull.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new gain levels are close to an EG5 but I don't expect the voicing to be the same, especially as Pete made it darker like his real XTC.

Making it tigher is an easy c3 swap

In my opinion, the EG5 is not designed well. Even Pete got rid of his EG5 for too much gain. It has too much gain, anything above noon on channel B is useless compressed nonsense. It sounds pretty good at 10-11o'clock.

The thing is I can get my Egnater SL2 to sound almost identical to the XTC. I can also get the SL2 to sound almost identicall to the Pete modded Plexi.

Your right on the EG5. Cant turn the gain up too much or it will squeal out of control. The Pete modded 1086 takes my vote for the BEST METAL module out there on the streets. :twisted:

Well I dont think it goes back to stock, but it has a gain pull(I think thats what it is) but its like the original 1086 but REALLY CLEAR AND DETAILED distortion that is BRUTAL and CUTS. IF you like the tone of the 1086 this is like a stock 1086 but on Roids!! No pedal or nothing needed. I bought it directly from Pete already modded out for 279 I think. I am not sure what he charges just to mod one, but IT IS WORTH IT if you love the Heavy CRUSHING distortion that the stock 1086 wish it could do. Like lifting a blanket off the speakers. No kidding!!

well since i love the 1086 but feel like it could be improved on i'd say for me its a no brainer. did the rat ass mesa side get any better with the mod. that thing flat out sucks and has more than a blanket over the speakers, sounds like bees farting under a quilt , i don't know why its even on there, i hope the dude from disturbed doesn't use that side :wink:

I loved the 1086 and felt "well if it improves it even a little then I will be happy" Man....plugged it in and it was RIPPING!!! WAY BETTER THEN I EXPECTED! Yes the thinned out mid cut side even sounds a little better!! But the Beef is the Full mid side. Man....it rocks SO HARD! That is the best sounding Metal I have played and I have had a SLEW of amps!!
Contact Pete! I just bought one he had and sold my stock one. Guess I didnt want to wait for him to mod mine! ha!!

Serious.....you wont regret it. Even the Mid scoop side NAILS Megadeth HOLY WARS or Metallica AM I EVIL tone......
He adds a little more gain, and the warmth and clarity to it but its a tone machine. My fav by far. My bandmates love it as well WAY MORE then the stock 1086.
