Not sure, my experience is with the Randall modules. I've never even seen an egnater module in person, but heard they are amazing.

Id say the MHG with the bright on is closer than the SL2. The MHG is more aggressive, more defined, and has tons of gain like an SLO.

I dont think the SL2 sounds all that much like my SLO to be honest.

EWS,

How much gain does the SL2 have on the B? I currently have the Vendetta head .but it weighs a ton .I might go M2 pre when bruce releases them .I want to know about the SL2 .I really did the sound of OKSTRAT modded Sl and Brown I like the bite in the mids .does SL2 and MHG do that .'

The SL2 is incredible, lots of gain on B,A is IMHO like a JCM 800 but better and the B side just takes it over the edge and some sounds thick and rich and bursting with flovor, kinda like the starburst commecial LOL :D Once you SL2 it's hard not to love that,The MHG is in it's own catagory, gain for days.Sorry didn't mean to answer for Matt LOL

NO prob.
So would you SL2 For Scorps Lynch .Crue, Ratt more likely or MHG.Like i said i have the Vendetta and Dig CH4 which is the EG4 i think but a lil more scooped

I think the SL2 could cover most of those tones with some tweaking,I think I fire up some old CRUE and see what I can do with the SL2 while in my palms HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!It's a must have mod...........

Cool .If you can record some .MHG vs SL2 for 80s hard rock tones .ie Shotgun Messiah, Crue ,Firehouse ..that would be awesome!!!!

That looks SERIOUSLY wicked man. Nice work.

I'd tread with caution with that rectifier logo though. It's great, but I bet it's trademarked and could get you in trouble.

I know. This one is 'personal use' LOL, not going to sell it... I need to figure out a way to change it slightly so someone couldn't be duped into thinking that this is a mesa product.
Pete

Maybe you could sell the faceplates "separately" and leave it to the buyer to actually put the faceplate on the module?

Thanks for stealing my thunder Jason! j/k

In my opinion, both modules can both cover similar ground more or less, but each is better at certain things. First of all, without a doubt, the MHG has more gain. Literally TONS. Its extremely tight, defined, and compressed. Channel A has more gain than Channel B of the SL2. People are going to disagree with me, but I dont think SL2 has all THAT much gain. I pretty much have to dime the gain on channel A to get my rhythm tone, then my lead tone on Channel B is about 3/4 up. Thats enough gain for me for sure, but compared to MHG, its not as thick. I think the MHG sounds thicker because its so compressed, but the SL2 sounds bigger, wider, and cuts better IMO. The MHG is just so focused and compressed, that its more aggressive, but also less 3D as a result.

MHG is more Soldano, Bogner, Diezel. SL2 is more hot rodded JCM800 (which is close to Soldano, Bogner, but those take it a whole other level like the MHG). Think of SL2 as the best boosted Marshall youve ever heard. Think Appetite for Destruction and thats it to a T.

So, for 80s metal which is better?

Scorprions = SL2
Early Crue = SL2
Crue Dr Feelgood and later = MHG
Early Dokken = SL2
The later lynch stuff where he uses SLO or Uberschall = MHG
Firehouse = Tough call, but probably slightly MHG

SL2 is definitely more hot vintage, while MHG is tight, modern, and in your face.

Hope that helps.

Thanks EWS .

So Basically the Hot rodded to hell Jcm 800 that all the LA guys used Shotgun Messiah, Loudness, Zakk no more beers thats the SL2 with the A channel pinned .
Another question ..some amps kinda have Pinch harmonics just leap off the fretboard .does the SL2 get this even with the A pinned .
If you listen to OKSTRATS clips on the modded brown .Ie cap mod ,tone stack .How close is that to the SL2 would that be similar to the A Cranked .
Thanks again ,I love the Vendetta really but and M2 when released will make life much easier ..wonder if Bruce will be bringing out a Mod 50 power amp with low power switch ..hmmmm

After playing the SL2 for a few hours:The A channel has some gain, not like the EG3 but its got gain.It would be close to okstrats clip at around 3/4 o clock gain wise,no prob getting anything to jump off the fretboard in A channel at that level, great sustain, texture, but them you switch to the B side and you better have a crash helmet on cause it's when the party starts, almost had me convinced to trade my COD for an SL2 but don't think that will happen, thats a diffenet story, but the SL2 is now on the fav. list and the want list so now I have to get my own  :D

Well, I dont use ultra hot pickups and my technique is not great for it, but I dont find pinch harmonics nearly as easy to get with SL2 as they are with MHG.

Im not sure which mod youre talking about, but I did find an okstrat clip for moddedSLP, so Im assuming thats the one. Id say they are certainly similar, but that clip is a littler brighter than I remember my SL2 (its out on module exchange with jmgman70 right now), but that could be the way they are dialed in. In the same ballpark though. Id say the gain amount is certain similar.

Not as brite but gain wise,I was using a JB,Duncan distortion and a Muy grande bridge at different times and I could get good pinch harmonics on A but B they just jump out without even trying. One word for this module "SWEEEEEEET"

Agreed. The B channel is a monster. A with the gain cranked gets a big rhythm tone, just enough gain IMO.

ok pete i have a couple of questions for you
1) are you willing to give details on exactly how to do that mode for the sl+
2) if not, how can i get that done?!

i really like the idea of having the switch for the jcm mod, and also having the second switch just for more tonal adjustments. and lets face it, the faceplat is bitchin too!!! i've had marshall knobs on my sl+ for a while now, but i definately like your faceplate more then my stock one.

also i know this is a threat mainly focused on the recto, and i apologise for the questions on the sl+, this just seemed to be the easiest way to ask.
