Im just wondering what the major tonal differences are between the plexi and the sl+. I currently have a plexi and love the tone it gets. Just wishing it had a little more gain. Would the sl keep that crunch and tone but have more gain on tap? I havent got a chance to play an sl so I dont know.

Thanks

SL+ is gainier and scoopier to my ears. A plexi modded for more gain sounds different, not as scooped, and more 'vintage gainy' than say 'modern gainy' if that makes sense.

Ok. So would an sl be close to a guns n roses sorta sound? Thats what Im looking for. A classic marshall tone. But Higher gain than the plexi.

There are of course several Marshall-based modules. To me, it epitomizes the classic heavy Marshall tone.

The SL2 from Egnater is the SL+ equiv of the Randall .I think
it has more of a GNR appetite sound .

the Kh2 is also said to be Hot rodded Plexi. similar to the discontinued brown but with more pick attack a bit more gain .and an upper mid bite

KH2  is absolutely what your looking for.

It is kinda similiar to the brown but just sounds better.

if you listen to say Van Halen I...sounds good. You listen to Van Halen II sounds good, just different than Van Halen I.

These modlues bascially have the same scenario...just choose what works best for your needs.

ofcourse, the resident module god 'okstrat' can do just about anything you'd like...which gives you even more flexability.

gotta love randall mts!

I dont think its easy to decribe AT ALL. I really like my Plexi module..and I really don't like my SL+ module.
To my ears (and you can visit my website and see that I DO have ears)
the Plexi is a great standard marshall sound, very usefull workhorse Marshall sounds (not super gain, but plenty for lots of things)...whereas,
the SL+ is more gain but I can't get it sit in amix, and out live at a high level it just sounds to coarse, to me.
I would consider selling it, even..any offers?

Back to your point: you HAVE to hear these things to get a feel for what its all about.
