I won't get chance to play either of them, but my dad has them in NC, and I'll be needing to sell one before I even get to see them.
So, which is better for High Gain technical death metal, but also has nice flexablility. I'm looking for solid crunch, grinding gain, and smooth leads if possible....

I'm going to be putting my modules up for sale soon, if there's any interest then please let me know, but it'll be around 3 weeks til i'm able to do any transaction because my dad busy in NC packing up our house.

for high-gain technical death metal...go with the ULTRA,all the way!!! i have one & that's the style of playing that i use it for.

the recto without a boost in front like a tube screamer blows, but with a boost in front it will kill the ultra. get a maxon 808 for that recto

I'm not putting any boosts in front of my modules, if they can't produce the right amount of gain on their own, then they're not worth their price.
If I wanted to put a Maxon in front of anything, i'd be better off buying some much cheaper Marshall JCM 800 or something.

It looks like the Ultra sounds great, isn't there a guy on here who mods them adding 2 more stages (Ultra XL & Ultra XL+) ???

Guys, what's the difference between

Ultra and XTC and treadplate? They completely different?

I heard a lot of the modules sound the same is this true?

Which 3 would you get for high gain, kill your boss metal?

Think of emg's and the highest gain possible. That's what I want.

I don't have emg's though, d-activators in 2 guitars that I use mostly.

go ultra xl for most gain, its very close to 5150 but it can be modded for better bass or kh-3 i hear is pretty good

Is it common for these things to just break? WTF? It's 2008, nothing should break.

A bit different than spontaneous breakage if you take a soldering iron to it ;)

I've had two modules fail on me but I put that down to shipping...one inbound and one outbound..and they were packed insanely well...bass pot breakup on both.

yeah f****** humans ha?

But IMO nothing should break. Everything should be indestructable, which is why I have problems with this planet. I've also decided I'm not coming back.

well, I got mine shipped and it didn't even work so it was a waste , I can't return it either so oh well my loss

If someone shipped you defective goods sure you can at least attempt some recovery?

Sorry to hear about the hassle though man.

I must have had a bad Ultra or something. It sounded weak. My Recto definately sounded heavier, but I don't think it's as heavy as what your looking for. The only thing I've tried that would fit the bill would be the 1086.

the ULTRA is the heaviest, gainiest mts module that Randall currently has.if your RECTO module sounded heavier, then your ULTRA module definately has something wrong with it or with the preamp tubes...i play Bolt Thrower,Death and Morbid Angel with my ULTRA module and it covers those tones with ease!!!
