"WTF? It's 2008, nothing should break."
Dude...if you're serious about that, maybe you should change your name from Unconventionable to Unreasonable.

Even under the best conditions...things happen, especially with all the mods and shipping that goes on.

The Recto/Treadplate (and Modern) are the two that beg for a smaller C3, IMO. The Grail has .0005, I believe, which is super tight.

Boosting a Recto is the way to go, for sure. It's not always about the gain, the Recto really opens up more when boosted.

Yes, I am very unreasonable. I looked at my RM4 last night. The modules don't sit flush against the chassis. I took it apart, there are missing screws inside on either side of where the module plugs into. The modules are too long for the chassis or the spacers that hold the backplane in should be 2mm shorter.

So it's unreasonable that I pay $630 for an empty preamp and the modules don't sit properly in the slots and there are missing screws inside the chassis?

sorry..Im just busting balls..
I do actually get it. It's alot of money. Especially now. My Rm4 has a module that doesnt sit right...I have to seat it just so..or the tone is off. Luckily...I dont use the module hardly ever.
Maybe contact RD Rich here... if your Rm4 is not within spec, maybe he can help.
It's really not unreasonable to expect gear to work right and be built properly. Taste is one thing, but build quality is another.
So far, my rig has been to me...except as noted. But I have seen posts disgussing certain units..and to Randalls credit they let these posts remain here in cyberspace. But from what Ive seen the build quality hasnt been an issue for most people. If you got a lemon..contace Rabdall ASAP. But if you just dont like the sound...thats a matter of taste.

Don't worry man, I'm not upset at your comments. I'm just a dick about buying things I have to hack to be proper. I shouldn't have to sand a module board to get it to sit properly in the slot.

I'm a nitpicker, but a friend pointed that out as well, so it's not just me. I'm a bit weary of a new brand, but so far so good.

Folks @ Randall have been cool with responding to my emails. I'm happy about that.

The ultra was my first module and to be honest, its the only module im 100% satisfied with that I've owned and never had to mod in any way.
