I'm having loads of difficulty gettng a good set-up/sound with the RM-100 with effect pedals and rack gear. With the guitar straight into it, it has an unbelievably great sound. I tried using a Verbzilla and DE7 (ibanez footpedal delay into the serial and parallel loops, but due to the level mismatch, was getting distortion and tone sucking. I then bought a Lexicon rack unit with two separate processors (one for verb and one for delay). I could not get the sound to work - through either the serial or parallel loops. The delay was always too loud or distorted and the verb was distant (Yes, I made sure everything was at unity gain and tried various settings of wet/dry on the unit itself, as well as the effect level on the RM-100).

I then tried some footpedals into the RM-100 (DOD Chorus, Boss Phaser, TS-09, Bluesdriver, Line 6 Crunchtone). Definitely sucked tone. The Plexi mod lost a lot of the sweet crunch sound running direct with out pedals.

Any ideas or helpful suggestions to get some verb/delay happening and then running some stomp boxes?

Thanks,

for rack mount stuff, the Gmajor or intellifex work great. If you want to use pedals, you'll need an EbTech line level shifter that will swap the fx loop from line to pedal level.

If you're going for stomp boxes as your main source of effects I would highly suggest the recently released TC Electronics Nova Delay. I played one through a friend's amp (Harry Joyce head, best Hiwatt-esque builder out there IMHO!) and it sounded phenominal. No tone suck whatsoever, just added delay to the pure signal. Great stuff, check it out. :D

Was the Nova run in front of the amp or through the FX Loop of the Joyce?. I have a DR-503 without an FX loop and would love a good sounding delay pedal that can go in front of the amp.

Plus, I'd love to avoid using the Loop on the RM-100. I bought the Ebtech and am still not loving the results. The delay sounds OK but the Verbzilla sounds like crap in the Parallel loop. I suppose I should run the Verb through the Serial and the delay through the parallel, but then I'd need two Ebtechs - which is starting to get a little ridiculous!
