Do the difference in power tubes affect the sound?, I have 6l6 in my rm 50 now, do el 34's produce more gain/less gain , higher headroom?. If someone could clear this up for me that would be great. Thanks!

Different power tubes amplify different parts of the frequency spectrum differently, compared with a 6L6 an EL34 typically:
1. Has lower clean headroom (breaks up earlier)
2. Has less bass
3. Has more going in in the mid-range, especially mids/hi-mids so it can appear to 'crunch more' and have more gain..might not actually be more gain but you may interpret it that way
