Which tube of the 3 is the phase inverter? Also, on the other two is it standard practice to replace them with regular 12ax7's and the phase inverter is balanced? Thanks.

the one closest to the power tubes is the phase inverter. the in the back is the V1. The last one is the FX loop buffer. Concerning your last question...i haven't heard anything like that...someone else with more experience will have to answer that...but what i do recommend is a JAN Phillips 5751 in the phase inverter...it eliminated all of the background noise in my RM80 (basically a 2x12 rm50).
