I?ve seen a lot of Snorkelers for sale in the classifieds lately and I just don?t get it. I think the Snork has THE best hot-rodded Marshall tone of any of my modules. I know it doesn?t have as much gain as many other modules and you may want to boost it for solos depending on what you are playing. However, it has a ?chewiness? that all my other modules lack and I just can?t get enough of it.

Just my 2 cents.

I would love to A/B this against the Sacred Groove Fisch Scott is currently building for me. Has anybody had an opportunity to do a side-by-side of these 2 modules? Knowing me and my module weakness, I imagine I'll be doing that very thing myself in the coming months...LOL

While I haven't A/B'd them I have owned both....Still have the Fisch...Any questions?

lol

In all seriousness, the Snorkeler is a great module...It didn't have the gain I wanted but sounded great...

Yeah but Matt, in all fairness, you hold on to your modules about as long as I used to hang on to my high school girlfriends!

Thanks for the kind words!

I know, the Hilly XTC is just flat out bitchin.
I've had one up for sale for a few weeks and I'm amazed it hasn't gone.
I really just don't need it anymore, but I do love it. I marked it down to $179 and it still hasn't been picked up. At that price I may as well keep it. I just needed the cash for pickups and microphones. Not the worst thing in the world to be stuck with a great module.

Resurrecting this older thread- Wonder why there's not more love or value for the Hilligan mods? I've turned back to my Snorkeler recently after having the sell some very prized mods and am still loving its tone. I'd say its as good a Marshall/Bogner tone as you will find with out all the options though...The prices are WELL worth it for his mods. I think Jeff's understanding of the design from Egnater really helps with the voicing and the feel of his mods too.

Maybe there's just not that many out there? I still haven't had the chance to try either one of the Hilly mods, but not for lack of desire.

There's got to be a few dozen out there at least? I know- not a ton but even then- It should not detract from the value- seems like it would add? Anyway- I love mine!

Just look at the Gigmods stuff - in the past they would sell very quickly and fetch prices just under Salvation Mods. But after Pete bowed out of mainstream modding, his name lost cred and the newer folks to the MTS world were never familiar with his work. I imagine there are a lot more Gigmods modules out there than Hilligan mods, and prices seem to be dropping on Gigmods, just because people don't know what they are all about. I imagine the something similar is happening with Hilligan's mods. Maybe it has something to do with the high turnover the MTS scene has as far as its user base goes?

Makes sense- Marketing is a big part of any business~ I have had both GM and Hilligan and the Hilligans are wayyy better- Just my opinion (and you know what they say about those!! :D )

+1 on Hilligan mods. Love my SL2X modded SL+. At the time his mod costs were half of anyone's and the work was clean and just awesome. His module has the least amount of changes to the regular PCB but somehow it just all works. I have been able to get close with my Brownstone module but i'm still keeping it. Snorkeler has always peaked my interest too. I am more a med. gain type guy + boost anyway.

I have a old SL+ that is one of the first ever mods by GIgmods. In fact it actually says Pete Turley on the faceplate. Hope I spelled that right. Anyway it is still my favorite higher gain module. I just recently loaned it to thecrush for a show since he liked it so much. Anyone who gets a chance to own one, I highley recommend it if you like hot jcm tones. I think it is so good becouse the mids are in the perfect place for the Marshall tone.

Im sure Pete has some good ones out there- I owned his Ecstasy and his Ultra and I personally did not like them at all. I had the Ecstasy heavily modded to try to "save" it but it still did not sound good- Honky, dark and noisy...If you like Marshall, the Hilligan Snorkeler NAILS the Bogner modifed JCM800 tone from Jerry Cantrell's Facelift tones- Just killer thick, chewy Marshall heaven....

Thought the Snorkeler was cool as well...As far as the GM stuff goes....hmmmmm....I really like his recto alot....Ive had alot of his others and thought they were too noisy, even with the gain lower..Im not one to dime out the gain.....I thought the 1087 had good tone, but was very noisy and teh volume was too sensitive...at 1-2 it wasnt quite loud enough...over 2 it went crazy...lol...I wasnt the only one that experienceed that with it either so I knowit wasnt just me......think Hilligan has fallen off the mod radar,as has GM from what I have heard.....

I've had several Gigmods since '09 and the only one that is a little noisy is my current Mark module, but the tone is great so I just use a Boss NS2 with it. The 1087,Slodano, KH3 (warmth/clarity mod), were all silent however, even with the RM100 cranked.

Just my 2c.
