The reason why I titled this "Synergy SYN-4IR" is because I have an idea for a new Synergy product that I believe would sell like hot cakes for pedal, stereo, and amp enthusiasts, that already use Synergy products. I would LOVE for Synergy to release a rack mountable pre-amplifier dock in the future, very similar to the SYN-2 - but is capable of stereo, AND contains two additional clean channels, as well as the IR technology that the IR20 has. This hypothetical "SYN-4IR" I'm thinking about would be best used in conjunction with the 5050 power amp, as well as the Synergy 412 cabinet. I really think that would be a near perfect setup.
To elaborate a little more, here would be the perks:
1) Two clean channels - Allow the player to play a clean dual delay (Think quarter note & dotted eighth delays in parallel). The clean channels could be linked to regulate the volume of both channels, similar to how the Boss Katana's work. Other perk to this would be allowing the player to bypass the Synergy preamps, and playing an Overdrive pedal in front of one clean channel, and a fuzz pedal in front of other channel. I have personally found that Synergy preamps DO NOT take overdrive or fuzz pedals well. However, I still love my pedals and don't want to get rid of them. It would be nice to be able to incorporate overdrive and fuzz pedals into a synergy rig, and play in stereo.
2) Synergy amps in stereo - Do you really love one preamp more than another? I sure don't. I have many favorite modules. It would be amazing to be able to play modules at the same time in parallel. Currently, with the SYN-2, you cannot play two modules at the same time, and that is unfortunate. If a stereo pre-amp dock is ever manufactured by Synergy in the future, I assume the player would have to (at minimum) use a channel selector like a Twin City ABY, to isolate or combine the channels.
3) Fuzz in front of a Clean channel in parallel with a Synergy preamp. Seriously, that would be cool. and the tone would be much thicker, than only being able to hear 1 amp channel at a time.
4) Sell more Synergy 412 cabinets. The Synergy 412 cabinet is seriously underrated. I don't know of any other guitar company that gives the player the option to either play mono 16 ohm, or stereo 8 ohm, in the back of the cabinet. The fact that the cabinet has both vintage 30s and cream backs is a huge plus. I think if a preamp dock could at least be split to stereo, that alone would sell more 412 cabinets. Right now, it almost don't really make sense to use the 8 ohm jack options, because all you can really do is dual mono (I use both the SYN-2 and 5050 power amp), so the 16 ohm jack makes the most sense.
5) Aesthetically pleasing. If a hypothetical SYN-4IR ended up taking 2u spaces, it would still be perfect. A typical 4u rack sits very nicely on top of a Synergy 412 cabinet. So if you have a 4u rack, you could load it with a power conditioner, SYN-4IR, and 5050 Power amp. Then run all your cables to your pedalboard. Should be pretty straightforward. I have a photo attached of my 4u rack sitting on top of a 412 Cab.
6) IR expansion - I have never used IR technology before, so this last point is the least thought out. Sorry. But the idea is this - If a new stereo preamp dock is every released like how I describing, it should and probably will have the IR tech that the IR20 amp has now. If that is the case, it really should somehow be expanded to additional channels. Let's say that this "SYN-4IR" is released, but you (the player) already owns a SYN-2. Should you sell your SYN-2? I think it would be best if the SYN-2 could be used in conjunction with this SYN-4IR. So basically, the IRs programmed in the SYN-4IR could be applied to external pre-amp docks. Not sure exactly how that would work, but I like the idea. At minimum, the two preamp docks should be able to connect with each other, just like a SYN-2 connects with other SYN-2 devices.
Anyways, that's all I have. Let me know what you think. I would love to talk to Synergy about this.
