Does the 59rr cover slashs AFD tone, I know it covers huge variety of marshall amps and has a jcm switch so can it be fine tuned to get that killer slash rythym tone?
-mp-

This comes up all the time.. I think JF can tweak his existing design to cover the caswell #39 tones but if you want a one trick poney, egnater SL2X or Hilligan SL2X mod. I posted soundclips to mine in a recent post last week. If you search this section you'll hear them.

The platinum probably could come close,it has the grit/crispness of those amps, the regular 59 doesnt as much....

I agree - I thought the Platinum Edition really did cover the Caswell/AFD tones. The key is to dial in the treble. That album has some of the brightest rhythm tones, and many of the leads are played on the neck pickup, and still cut through. It will sound shrill by yourself, but will machete through a band mix.

Before the Platinum Edition was released, I did 1 or 2 custom 1959RR's where the Diode Clipping was replaced with the 2/3-Stage switch. That switch was originally used on my KH-23 mods 3 years ago (a sleeper mod that is absolutely fantastic) and exists in a variation on my XTC. I will occasionally build a custom 1959RR with that same change and actually have one in line at the shop now. It differs from the Platinum in parts used, the absence of the Diode Clipping circuit and a few tuning tweaks.

If you are interested in one of these custom 1959RR's just shoot me an email and we can build you one for just a bit more than a standard one. I can tune the bottom to more of a Slash-cutting tone for you as well.

It never hurts to ask!

Customer service at it's finest..

Rob, what is the KH 23 , 2 side like on your mod anyway? My understanding was that the KH-2 was essentially the "brown" module re-released in a fancy face plate for the Hammet line. Did you find it similar at all? What did you do to it to enhance it?

Well thank you good sir! I certainly try.

I posted this about the KH-23 when asked on my Facebook page yesterday:

Improved on the base tone by revoicing the Mids, altering the tone stack and tone knobs response curves, adjusting the bottom and removing some of the congestion. A boost is added and the II/III switch adds a gain stage. Killer mod for a range of Metallica tones and metal in general.

Essentially I built both the KH2 and 3 onto one module via a switch, did my standard Base Mods, added a Boost and fine-tuned it.

The KH2 shares some similarities with a Brahma, Plexi and Brown. It's probably closest to the final version of the Brahma from a stock POV. The Brahma had the cap/resistor circuit at C3 and the Brown had a woofy response due to the 472 cap there. The KH2 was a happy medium.

At one point I had a stock KH2, stock KH3, stock Brown, Gigmods Brown, & a Gigmods KH3

The stock Brown and KH2, while in the same ballpark, were not just a matter of a fancy faceplate slapped on the same circuit. All of the modules were interesting and a bit different...I'd love to hear JF's version, as I felt the KH2 needed more gain and the KH3 needed less congestion. Nonetheless, i miss them all, lol

Sounds like a winner.. to my ears that special C3 resistor/cap combo in the brahma's brings out the best in modules. My two fave modules have it. My friedman brahma and my own modded brahma. The modules cut.

Just got a platinum. Dude. One stop shop Marshall. I had the regular 59rr before, but this is truly remarkable. So many great switches that can all work in every mode. Insanely genius. I live getting the plexi settings and having the 3-stage gain setting so far, but the rodded 800 is nothing short of stunning. It can nail all the classics to a "t" as well.

I can't say enough good things about my Platinum 59RR. It does everything from beautiful Hendrix cleans all the way to full on Slayer/Megadeth shred.

The very first thing I did when I took it out of the box was dial in the "Out Ta Get Me" tone. My face melted right off.

Woohoo! I'm glad you are loving it. Great trade!

Not without a considerable shift in the mids and highs. The stock SL+ was too dark for that tone.
