Been playing with some NOS glass. Ended up using a Kinman in V1 of the Malcolm Module and a Brimar in V1 of the Judge.

I am surprised as to how much of an impact this has on the tone. The Malcolm sounds really Fender like, the Judge has really tightened up.

Wouldn't actually the V1 tube of the host amp be the one with the biggest impact, and V1 of either module is more like a classical V2?

Yes, you'll get the most effect from using a NOS tube in V1 of the amp. Although I have had good luck using certain tube types in V1 of certain modules. For example, since vintage Fenders used RCAs I put RCAs in my Fender based modules. Sylvanias or Amperex in the mid/higher gain modules.
