Jam Industries acquires US Music
Rob Hughes Aug 25 2009, 10:08am
Brands including Washburn and Randall change hands in the States

MMR Magazine has reported the acquisition of US Music Corp by Jam Industries. Rudy Schlacher is stepping down from his position as CEO of the company, which he founded four decades ago.

US Music's family of brands includes: Washburn, Randall, Eden, Parker, Soundtech, Oscar Schmidt, Vinci, and GWL. UK distribution of these brands will not be affected.

Schlacher stated: "We are pleased to join forces with a strategic partner like Jam Industries, which has a long successful history in the music industry and has been a long-term business partner with US Music. It has been a thrilling and rewarding 40-year ride that has allowed me to realise my dreams and goals that would not have been possible without the support of our customers and suppliers. It is now time to hand the reins over to a valued and trusted partner."

Jam Industries is a Quebec-based company that has been distributing musical instruments and related gear for over 30 years. Chairman Marty Golden commented: "It is with great pride that we have been able to come to an agreement with Rudy and US Music Corp that will enable US Music and its worldwide brands to continue to grow and prosper going forward. We envision that US Music will operate as an independent and wholly owned subsidiary of Jam Industries under the guidance of its current president, Barry Ryan.

"We are confident that we will be able to leverage our combined companies strengths and past successes to even greater results. In addition, we will continue to tap into Rudy?s creative and intuitive instincts as well as his supplier knowledge as we make the transition to the next chapter in US Music?s history."

And...

From "Acoustic Guitar Trade" magazine:

and...
from Wiki

Washburn Guitars
Oscar Schmidt Inc. & Lyon Guitars
Randall Amplifiers

What are your thoughts everyone???

I think Us music Corp has ALL the responsibility to have to make a press release when these things happen. just to inform their loyal customers and soon to be customers. even if it is just a distribution deal or partnership. US music may still own Randall and so on overall, but bringing JAM into the picture will change many thing, so we she know about it :)

wonder if having a Canadian company involved will mean that we can actually get some Randall product fast! and in stores when it should be.

not being up front and honest with us has made me wonder if I will be buying another Randall product in the near future.

I hope JAM runs the line better then USM has in the last few years.

Good job moving it, apologies for helping in the earlier threadjack.

On topic:
This is Aug 2009, no notice of it (as you can see by my earlier ignorance).

I wonder how much change has happened within the company in terms of management etc.
Because that kind of defined how this is going to progress from here.

yeah i can't believe its over a year and no one knows it even happened, thats some good silent sales :)

Has anyone from Randall been around lately? they willing to Chime in and let us know what's up?

This is the latest post from Randall.
I hope they are reading it, but having all this turmoil and no responce whatsoever leads me to believe that they don't.
That or they're not allowed by company policy to actually say anything, which is a very real possibility!

It's obvious. Most companies have their employees sign confidenitality agreements (f the spelling today). So the announcement would appear on the main company's website. There always is a shake up during a merger. Morale gets low among the employees at a company not knowing where they're going to be in three months. I've been through mergers and survived mergers, and they're not fun.

..and the bottom line is usually is:
"Well ..from here on in..we will just have to do more with less"

Or as the Who put it:" Meet the new Boss...the same as the old boss"

..this is why I DO have political sentiments and I am saddened when we are allowed to have a forum, like this, but not allowed to mention the very thing which makes it grow or dissapear...foreign policy, trade policy etc.
I am GRATEFUL, but understand..we are deeply affected by Bruce going to China or US Music selling to another company.

You people who think its distasteful to speak of such things have learned nothing.

It's not allowed because it's not productive and polarizing. Keeps us from discussing how to get the best out of our music gear which is the only reason this forum exists.

Jam is a company from Quebec ,they know really nothing about music biz
they buy companies and try to make profit by off shoring and cutting cost .
Similar to the Fender Hamer scenio .Fender fired Joel dantzig the head guy and head enginneer .
Companies like Jam buy all the ideas and products fire all the people in the know that ar smart and good .and bring in Quality people like Joe Delany to run thing on the cheap .
This would not be the first company Jam has riun into the ground .They have a rep up here in canada for it

This leaves me feeling sad.

I wrote to the contact us section at JAM Industries, just to ask and see what they say, it was as follows:

Hello there.

I'm not sure if I am sending this email to the right department of JAM industries, but after reading in different sources that JAM industries has bought/acquired Us Music Corp, I just had to send an email to ask if such reports are true.

I am a Washburn and multiple Randall Amplifier owner and am very curious if the ownership transfer is true.

If so could you please let me know and is there any production stop delay or changes because of the ownership transfer.

thank-you

the Reply

The reports that Jam Industries has acquired US Music are correct. I am unaware of any delay in production.
Please let me know if you have further questions.

Sweet and simple i guess, lol.

I'm sorry, and this is going to sound catty, but I have a problem imagining someone with the name "Candy" in a position of responsibility. Of course this is the music business......

Dick van Dyke became a respected and established actor

But indeed I have to raise the question: what does the name your parents gave you, have to do with your competence?

Nothing, but we all make judgements based on our history/experiences/background/etc. My 1st thought was porn star or stripper. But upon further review one would expect a person in wither of those fields to drop the stage name if moving away from it.

Well to interject. I was recently talking to our local Korg representative and he said that Korg had given Marshall to USM. So i am sure that USM or whoever they are now is investing pretty heavily in Marshall and letting Randall sit for now. But they will return soon. Who knows, maybe a Marshall MTS is in the works. All the brilliance of the Egnater design coupled with the horrible low quality crap design of Marshall. How'd that be?

Peace, Joshua
